CJ7 Computer Questions.

I have been working on rewiring my Jeep 83 CJ7. I am to the computer ECU/MCU and have never seen more splices or such a plain bad hack job, so I jumped on to find a diagram to try and redo all the wires. I have found that it was used mostly in the warm up stage and then was off after that, I have found some write ups about HEI's and a thing called the Nutter bypass. In reading these it seem as if after the ECU/MCU is useless, I know the Nutter bypass will do nothing for me as I have a Weber carb and I also know the benefits of doing an HEI conversion. I know that it has the diagnostics feature, but not to sure that is doing anything, nothing to do with the tranny/trancase, or brakes.

Does anyone know if I can just get rid of the computer? if so Im not going to waste my time rewiring it, I know it did not have most of the connectors connected when I bought it and all the vacuum lines are pretty much abandoned.

You can chuck the computer if you go hei, if you do that buy a DUI. Do not buy a ebay hei there are many cj guys who have had their cam gear chewed up by a cheap hei and that is no fun at all.

Get Rid of the computer. To bad the days when you could sell it to a poor fool trying to pass emission tests are long gone.

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Yeah, just search for the "bypass", can't remember the full name of it, but it walks you through bypassing it. Also consider upgrading your carb to a MC 2100. It was the best move I made to my '83, before swapping to a chevy drivetrain.

Thanks guys. I would like to get some input on these three if you don mind.

Summit HEI Summit products are usually pretty good (My Experience).
Full DUI More Money, but good reviews.
DUI Upgrade Seems like a bandaid even though my distributer is basically brand new.

If it was you, which one would go with?
Thanks again guys.
