Clanging hubs. What could it be?

I recently had the seals go out in one of my front hubs, and since the other side was about to go out too, I put new ones in on both sides of the front. Now for some reason I'm getting a clanging sound from the front. When I drivbe straight, nothing, no noise, everything's fine. When I turn in one direction, I hear a clanging sound, like creaking metal, and sometimes it sounds like something smacks the hub like a bell. If I keep turning that same direction or return to straight, it won't do it again, but then if I turn in the other direction, it'll do it again. So it only does it when I switch directions or turn at a slow speed.

Any ideas or opinions about what could be causing this?

Thanks!

What axle? the stock dana 30? It does sound like you may have left the sliding insert out of the caliper. This will let the caliper move and make noise.

Yeah, Dana 30. I'll check the brake caliper out. I'm hoping I just put something together wrong when I put it back together, wouldn't be the first time. Thanks for the two suggestions so far, if anyone has any other possibilities in mind, I'm all ears!

I'm pretty sure it's not the wheel bearings. Something I tried to test that was I tunred the wheels from side to side while the jeep was stationary. It still did it while the wheels weren't turning, so I think that would cancel out the wheel bearings. Am I wrong in assuming that?

if you havnt lube it in awhile do you think maybe the needle bearing have dissolved from the abuse of turning with no lube and now it makes a eek eek eek eek noise

squealing noise right specialy when you turn hard ?

Just got new wheel bearings in, so those are fine. Not sure what a needle bearing is...

I need to take it apart, lube everything, and put it back together nice and tight to makes sure that's not it. If it still does it, I'll have to explore further...

check inside the knuckles and try to move the cross or X inside the knuckles that is your ujoint.. it uses needle bearing to roll around.

Yup, what Todd said. We saw this in my inlaws d30. The pin holding caliper actually broke off Where it threads into the brake bracket. Made the same noise as the caliper would float up and down as the disk turns. It could actually float up far enough to smack the inner side of the rims.
