cleaning the gas tank

I have a 93 Cherokee that has been sitting for a year and a half. I just pulled the fuel pump because it wasn't working. In doing so I noticed allot of rust and corosion on the sending unit. it was so bad one of the wires had rusted to the point of breaking off the pump. hens the pump not working. the question is what are some good ideas to clean the tank? I know I will probably have to take it off. But are there some chemicals to put in it? Should I go to a yard and get another tank Ideas and impute needed thanks guys.

Pull it and clean it out with the garden hose. wait for it to evaporate before you put it back in (worked fine for my dune buggy tank).
resolder your fuel pump with new wires and try it out.

Metal tank? muratic acid, $7/gal at lowes.
