Just rolled in from Moab about 1 hr ago. On the way into area BFE today we saw 3 rigs staged as though they were going to run Coyote. I figured they might just be going up to walk it since during Easter Jeep the trail was posted as closed.
We went up and ran Greenday and then on our way back out we saw the rigs coming out the exit from Coyote.
We talked to the guys about whether it was open or closed. They played the "it doesn't have any closure marked on it, it must be open", card. I said, "fair enough, but everything I have seen on the internet says it is closed, and it was posted during EJS"
My buddy and I walked the entire trail and it looked to me like they had been the only ones on it for quite some time. When we got to the exit we found the closure sign up behind a tree. The tracks leading up to the sign were made sometime before a heavy rain that fell the day before(saturday). We took the sign down to the entrance and stood it up. We looked around for the signs that should have been at the entrance. They are probably in some assholes garage.
This disgusts me. I can't be certain that the guys we saw run the trail were the ones that took out the closed signs. Could any of you that are in the Moab area please call the BLM and let them know that there signage has been comprimised. Or get me the phone # and I will call them.
That is a great trail and I would like to run it again someday. Assholes like this will keep us all off of the trail. They are also probably the same people that call other user groups "tree huggers" or "environmentalists" etc. If you are a rock crawler/ohv enthusiast and you are not an "environmentalist" you had better become one if you want to keep doing your sport outside the confines of a dedicated park etc.
Just my 2 cents. I thought you all need to know and perhaps the people that took the signs down will see this. Other than that.............it was a great 2 days of wheeling.
