Cutting brakes?

Has anyone ran a CNC cutting brake for each axle vs. each wheel? Is it possible to do? Are the plungers big enough to stop two tires? What did you use? Looking to throw some in while I've got it apart. Any info would be great

I had a 3/4" CNC cutting brake on my old buggy, it was marginal using it with one caliper per brake cylinder....so I'd be really surprised if you could move enough fluid to affect two calipers per cylinder.

Are there cutting brakes available with larger pistons? It's been a while since I looked at any....

Back in the day we used a cutting brake to lock up the brakes on a rear axle of buggy. It seemed to work pretty well. Front digs, power slides, etc...

I am sorry I don't remember how big the bore was though...

Would it work if you used your brake pedal to build pressure then use the lever to hold it?

They are fairly useless without an ARB since an auto locker will drive right through them. I had them on my old buggy on the rear axle. But it was an ARB. With the locker engaged, it wouldn't do a thing. Unlocked, they worked great with the Detroit up front.

I don't see much advantage to using them on both axles though.

Did you have a rear disconnect? I am thinking the Detroit with a disconnect will work with cutting brakes. Should work right?

Atlas. So, yes.

But, I wouldn't disconnect the rear that often unless it required a front dig. I would unlock the ARB, lay into the cutting brakes and blip the throttle. I could literally do a 90* turn in about a 5ft radius.

I have a small ball valve on the rear. Use the pedal then close the valve then let off the pedal. Use that for front digs. I have a Detroit front and rear. It works, but I honestly don't use it very often. I tried a button line lock first. It didn't work to well.

I a few guys running dual master cylinders. 1 pedal for each axle...There are some pretty sweet wilwood ones. But they are probably a lot more expensive than cutting brake handles...
