I just bought cross drilled rotors off a TJ but they wont work on my XJ. It seems like they have a different offset, my new rotors rub the dust shield. My cherokee has the cv jointed shafts and after measuring the mount plate to the knuckle and the rotors off my XJ and off my TJ and my new ones I've found they're a different offset. So, does anyone know if it's the knuckle or if it's my shafts? I'm pretty sure it's the shafts that offset the rotors so they rub against my.
So can I replace the (disco)shafts in my XJ with the ones from my 97 TJ(non disco)? This would be helpfull since I won't need the TJ's shafts after swaping in a new axle.

Any info would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure that you can swap the TJ shafts into your Dana 30. That's what I plan to do on mine to get rid of that disco shaft. I don't think that would what is causing your rotors to rub though.

I should get some pics maybe. I measure the depth of the two different rotors and they're about a 3/8's different. The backside of my old rotors is thicker than the backside of the new ones and the stock ones of my TJ. The interior diameter of the drum on the XJ's rotor is too small to fit over the backing plate of the TJ's axles. So I know there's some difference with the shafts. I'm just trying to find out if there's any difference in the knuckles in the years that jeep made the cherokee and the TJ. My cherokee's an 84 and my TJ's an 87. If they're the same knuckles then I can assume it's the shafts, and that the backing plates are set at different track widths.
That would explain why the backsides of the rotors are different widths.

if its only rubbing the dust shield then just take it off or bend it if you really want it...I think it would be better than using TJ shafts IF they are a different size...I swapped some rotors from my 94 wrangler onto my 85 cherokee and I had to change the unit bearing too so the rotor would fit...check the unit bearing on you TJ and see if they are the same depth...

Thanks. I'll check that out. I hammered the shield in a little and it's still going to rub on the knuckle. Its about 3/8th's too deep, I can use those cheap spacers but that's a gheto approach.

Depends on what year the Rotors came off. In like 99-00 they changed the unibearing and all that junk, making the swapping out rotors, calipers, and unibearings somewhat difficult.

An XJ does use different shafts, especially with the disconnect. they are smaller. It is possible to changer everything out. Just find the earlier TJ unibearings and shafts- most likely 97-98.
