Dana 30 locker opinions please

I'm going to put 4.88 gears in and put a Superior 44 kit with a detroit in the rear. Now I don't know what to put up front  . Any opinions? I have 36X12.50 TSLs and want a strong locker that will last. One more thing I have the 2 wheel low kit so a full locker in the front might work.
Thanks

Got power steering :D Feel free using the Detroit Locker. If you want something a little less abrasive, try the Detroit EZ-Lockers or something along those lines ;) I have run the EZ's for the past 5-6 years. NO traction issues at all, broken axles, but no traction issues :D

I'd choose a selectable locker for the D30. You can "feel" the stress and unlock it if necessary if you're bound up and going to blow something up. More money, though.

I wouldn't spend a whole lot on the D30 with your 36" tires.....your housing will look like a boomerang sooner or later and your locker will not appreciate it.

Thank you for all the info. I know I should probably go for the ARB but my budget for this project is getting tight so I might have to leave it open until I can get the cash for the ARB. I'm still thinking about the EZ locker just concerned with the strength.

Don't leave it opened! Lock it up, learn how to quickly change shafts & u-joints then carry spares!

There's nothing better than being locked F & R!

Amen Bruda..... I actually think if you learn to drive with lockers you do less vehicle dammage than without them.... You can get away with alot less skinny peddle if your locked up...... Thats if you learn how to drive with them.. ;)

whats your concerns?

I have had one in the front of mine for 5 years and no issues. I ran 36's the first three years and now run 38's the last year and a half. Have I broke shafts, yes.
the locker, no.

the jeep before this one I had them in it also no probs.

Nothing wrong with keeping your investment in the D30 low. Go with a 'lunchbox' locker. I doubt you'll be disappointed (you may want to look into hydro assist steering-I heard a nasty rumor that the Rocklogic boys were working on an XJ application)

hey think of it this way. no matter what you do it will always be a dana 30. Dont put money into it. put in a cheap lock right.(150 bucks) you will never know its there. the worst that can happen is you brake a shaft and the shaft breaks the carrier. ( instead of breaking a locker )so what 45 bucks and you have a new carrier. thats what happen to me. no big deal and i you cant feel the locker when driving around.

dont buy an ez-lock......... I realive im heavy on the skinny pedel, but mine only made it one real wheeling trip in Northern Michigan with 2+ feet of snow...... sheared all the engagment pins off and stuck locked which made my drive home a real pain..

you do realize anything and everything can and will break.

best bang for the buck is still a lunch box locker.

so what did you do to solve your problem?

think I'll go with the EZ locker, and if necessary I can get the hardened shafts for the dana 30 to beef it. My concerns are: I've never ran lockers except for the factory limited slip in my old TJ so I wanted to hear about experiences of other people so I can avoid wasting money on something that I won't like. Although I'd really like to have the ARB up front but I'd have to wait a few months to get the extra dough. You have all help a ton I never thought about the binding or the pins sheering so this is the kind of info I needed.

Ever thought of trying a Tru-Track gear limited slip? Its really agressive for a limited slip and it will be easier on your rig. Only prob is that are about $335 w/o install
