Dana 30

Would any one be willing to tell me if there are any big difference between Dana 30 from other vehicles? Example I was thinking of picking up some shafts from the junk yard for my 04 TJ but I've yet to run across a yard that has TJ. I'm inclined to think xj is the best fit. Thanks.

Depending on the year, the U-joints might be a different size. Also, many XJ's had vacuum-disconnect front axles, so the long side would be different from yours. Other than the disconnect axles, the shafts will be interchangeable. For that matter, ZJ's would as well, provided they don't have CV joints.

If you can find one without the vacuum disconnect box, they will most likely be interchangeable. The newer ones have 297 u joints so you'll want to upgrade an older set.The 297s will fit the older shafts.

I was all good until this sentence. :p The 297 joint will NOT fit in place of a 260. The yoke is a different size. If you find a set of non-disconnect small-Ujoint shafts, throw them away.

The good news is Omgbecki's TJ would have always had the larger joints.

I stole a lot of axle shafts from various TJ Dana 30 cast offs for my XJ front axle(s). I believe a TJ/ZJ/XJ bracket setup is the same and the housings are interchangeable. Watch the unit bearings/brake setups as there are some differences there.

Not that stupid.....stupid would be, "Will the ABS 91 XJ Dana 30 shafts fit in my 90 Bronco II?"

Yes, the difference is going to be that the ABS shafts have a tone ring, which you can ignore in your non-ABS XJ D30. FWIW, the Spicer 5-760x joint replaces the 297x unit, 760 is stronger and non-greasable.

Honestly I just went to edit my comment and it deleted. Anyways thanks. So my situation is I killed a u joint at EJS. Somehow it was very uneventful just kind of deteriorated. I'm not sure if I messed anything up on the outer shaft and don't have the money to chase issues right now. So I was thinking of going to the yard to get something to get buy until I got the money for the next step

I just undid the 3 bolts on the unit bearing and pulled the shaft out with that. Didn't worry about torquing the unit bearing and such. I assume you'd want to find an ABS Cherokee (from what I've seen, those all have D35 rear?) and I think you'd be good to go with your ABS in your TJ?

Thanks for the offer. I'm going to call around and see what I'd get charged for someone to press in new joints. If I find mine is damaged I'll hit you up.
