My question is can you put a Dana 300 in a TJ with a passenger side drop axle. I know you can flip it and buy a clocking ring and a flip kit. I have to change the front axle any how so just seeing if I can save some money. Has anybody done this?

I haven;t done it but I see no reason you couldnt...there may be SOME clearance issues but nothing a fancy driveshaft wouldn't fix...:D

Do you still need to do floor modifications with a clockeing ring. Here is my plan. When I get back from fishing this summer I plan on putting a Hemi in my TJ and it is expensive so I am trying to cut costs however possible. I know the 231 bolts up to the Hemi transmission so I figure the the 300 will as well. Since I have to modify my front axle any how I thought this would cut 6 or 700 hundred in cost. I found a motor/trans with a the TJ wiring harness for 6500. Add 1500 for the Motor mounts and exaust. See what kind o deal I can get on axles. After selling my drivetrain I should be able to do it for 8000. Sounds like alot work but is good I think it would be a pretty cool set up and if fishing is good it would fun and different.

The dana 300 does share the bolt pattern with the 231 but the input seal housing sticks out too far and you have to use an adapter to hook it up on all of the trannys I have looked at. I put a dana 300 behind a cherokee aw4 in my scrambler using a Novack adapter. The adapter clocks the 300 to almost level. The adapter is only about 7/8 of an inch thick.

You can clock the t-case down quite a bit but then your looking at it being a good drag point on rocks. I couldn't tell you if you would still have to cut, but I bet it would be close. I just put one in my cherokee and ended up cutting a 2x2 hole in the floor.

I'm going with a Novak adapter for my swap. Sounds like it worked pretty good for you? Sounded like an excellent vendor when I chatted with them on the phone yesterday.

axles

I am thinking I will use a ford 9 in the year. I should be able to get away with this beings the dana 300 is shorter, and the motor is shorter. For the front I am thinking I will use a 44 out of a wagoneer.
