Dana 300 vs 4.3 atlas

I have currently a 4 to 1 dana 300 in my CJ7. Stock outputs. I just bought another jeep with the Atlas is it. It is hooked to a 4l60 so I would have to purchase a new input gear to connect to my AX15 that is going into my Jeep. Then I would also need to adapt the Dana 300 back to the 4l60. I am wanting the Atlas but it seems like a lot of work. So is the atlas that much better of a t-case? What are the differences between the two?

To me it all depends on use. You can get away with a lot of hard rock crawling with a 300, even with a healthy motor. But the day you break one is the day you know you need more strength. Most of the time that needed strength is in the case, which is why the Replace a case was a good idea from Stak.

If you already have a dana 300 i say run it if you had to buy one or the other Atlas is a bigger bang for the buck, I now have 2 atlas transfer cases in my stable and I couldnt happier

Its worth the swapping of input shafts.. I would personally side more towards the atlas for a rig I would keeping. The D300 does have many limitations and if you do any type of extreme wheeling/rock crawling it may eventually break, then your out all the cash of what its worth as a re-sale component in running condition.

Just last month I saw one break the case cause the gears exploded and it had already been upgraded with 4340 input and output yokes...complete loss of investment, rig now sports an atlas 4speed... but damn the loss of funds upgrading that medium duty part.

I agree. Having said that, I believe Flexyfool on here pretty much just scrapped his Altas due to broken gears. So nothing is bullet proof.

If your goal in Moab is BFE, get the Atlas. If your goal in Moab is Long Canyon, stick with the 300. Most guys will never break it.
