What axle shafts would you run? And what u joints would you run? I want to make this axle reliable but also try to keep the cost down if possible thanks for any of your help
Camdawg

The RCV website says the company warranties the chromo shafts for 47" tires but not with a spool. There is no limit stated for the 300M shafts. I think the RCV's are what you want. The joint design will also be gentler on the differential spider gears and splines.

But if it were me, I would just throw 35 spline outers at the axle and quality Spicer ujoints. Turn out the limt screws to set the turning radius to 1/2 max. If/when it breaks, skip over the chromo axles and joints and go right to the ultra-expensive RCVs or Spidertraxs.

I started with low pinion front, cut and retubed it for width. Started with stock chevy kingpin knuckles tapped for hi-steer. Double ended ram, spool, 35 spline inners and outers , spicer joints and 40" creepy comps. The buggy isnt light, and its only 300hp at the crank? (not dyno'd but according to Jim @ jims perf.) I usually run it iun 3:1 but have run it with the 5:1. I'm not all right foot, but Im also not afraid to hit something hard. Never broke a knuckle. Broke the ears on one of the shafts on suicide hill. Got a deal and upgraded to crane inners, solid outers, and RCV's. I really dont worry about it now. But I wheeled it for a VERY long time without all the HI end stuff.

My experience with Branik, while working for a certain 14bolt manufacturer locally here, was that the shafts were not always compatible with other parts-- like spools, lockers, etc. The dimensions were just a little off... and I should be clear and say that this was 40spl stuff, not standard 30spl.

CTM and RCV made stuff that ALWAYS worked no matter what. YMMV.

FWIW, current 14 bolt stuff is generally using 60 outers. There are options available though, esp. if your'e using double-splined shafts from say, Ouverson, CTM, etc etc etc. I would still love to see a Rockwell-outer rear-steer 14 bolt, but that's just me, and I could never afford it.

Bob B. has good info, and doesn't drive like a ballerina, so, listen to him if you're set on a 60. :D

I just love rear steer. It is very addictive and I cannot leave it alone. It is just so fun. How did I live without it for such a long time?
