Dana 60 tube swap

Advanced four wheel drive charges $300 to swap tubes.

That seems more reasonable to me, although it is something that I feel I could tackle on my own still. The only other thing I still dont like too much about the Chevy front is the low pinion. But if I can still get it for a good price I am sure I could live with it.

Going back to the "redneck" way of just flipping the housing, what if reverse rotation gears were installed? (although they are probably not made for a Chevy front end since they are all low pinion)

The pinion would still be spinning on the wrong side of the ring gear.

I was just kidding about just flipping the axle. I sawpictures on another person who do it on another board and get seriously ripped for it. hense the "redneck way" It isn't something I would do. it won't oil correctly and you'll be tearing up pinion bearings. If you're serious about it do it right.

I paid a shop somewhere between $200 and $300 a few years ago to have a Chevy 60 swapped for the front of my TJ. You don't get the high-pinion, but you can have them rotate the knuckles further than stock to get the pinion pointed up without screwing up your castor. I *think* I went 15 degrees past stock on mine.

I get a lot of questions as to why there's a leaf spring perch in the center of my frontend.

77 = Closed knuckles???

The high pinion improves your clearance, driveline angle, and driveline clearance. The reverse rotation (or high pinion axle) gears don't change the direction (rotation) of the axle, they place the rotating force of the pinion back on the drive side of the ring gear (like the rear 60 axle has) instead of on the coast side of the gear like the chevy and dodge front 60 axles have. So in that respect, the Ford RR axle is stronger than the Chevy/Dodge axle, but the Ford has a weaker Knuckle which is prone to breakage when high steer arms are used. They (Ford) also only have 5 smaller bolts that hold on the spindle compaired to the Chevy/Dodge that have 6 larger bolts. And the Hub is about 1/2 inch shorter on the Ford.

I tryed to look it up but couldn't find it. I don't know what year the open knuckles started. I was phrasing that as a question.

I forgot how funny this place was!!! $500 is a good deal to swap the tubes. And the D60 pinion height will be perfect for what you want. Good luck!
