I've been wanting to visit Poison Spring Canyon for some time, have driven by the turnoff South of Hanksville many times, but never had the chance to head down the canyon... until last weekend. I left Fruita early on Sunday morning and made the drive to Hanksville and beyond. I wasn't really sure what to expect in Poison Spring Canyon, but was excited to find what was ahead!
I drove the first few miles and found soft sand and lots of loose, baby-head rocks.... among the simply stunning scenery! I aired down the tires to a crazy-low 25 PSI on my wife's '03 4Runner to help with the sand and bumpy canyon bottom.
Finally made it to the Dirty Devil river ford and opted to call it enough, Daisy swam out to test the depth and it looked very driveable, but I decided not to risk it. I will be back and continue on eventually!
