I did an actual check on my 2006 2500 Ram and around the city it was 17.6 MPG. The computer said 19.4 but I believe that is the overall average figure. Will have to check the manual.

the two positions on my hubs are lock, an automatic, so I guess that is the vacuum lockout:confused:

From my experience with my dad's 2001 7.3L (maybe exactly the same hub???) the automatic position is "Free" unless the vacuum is engaged. So you already have "free-spin". I'd save myself $2k and make sure the automatic hubs are operating properly or "upgrade" to the work-truck style "lock" and "free" hubs. My '99 7.3L had actual manual hubs that I assume would bolt on to your truck for mucho cheaper than the $2k "free spin" kit?

I do realize your '08 truck may or may not be the same and the parts may or may not swap from a nine year old axle? For my $, I'd exhaust those options before dropping $2K on a free-spin kit. For my $, I'd RATHER have a locking hub and transfer case shifter than the "automatic" 4x4 (my dad had a few failures and my truck had zero with it's old school shifter/hub technology).

The latest actual mileage check. SLC to Ontario, OR speed 75 - calculated = 18.6 computer = 20.7 Ontario, OR to Gig Harbor, WA speed 65 to 70 calculated = 20.6 computer = 23.8 Also checked the odometer and it read 5.2 miles in a 5.0 mile run. Have not run the numbers but this could be the cause of the difference.

04 dodge 2500 6 speed manual, Banks six gun chip, bullydog pmt, afe intake, 4" turbo back exhaust ( no cat ), south bend clutch. I bought this truck new and had the banks chip, intake and exhaust and have always run 35" tires, I got 18.5-20 on highway as long as I kept it under 72. Now with the addition of the south bend clutch and the pmt I am getting 20-22 on the hwy and 19 around town. I have been extremely pleased with my truck over the past 8 years.

The important thing to remember here is that Ford didn't take any government bail out money. Even if the dodges are getting a little better MPG's you're going to have to remember to thank your neighbor for his tax contributions to your new truck...
-And why the freak won't Chevy make a bench seat in leather??? What's the point in buckets seats in a truck!?!? If your girl can't ride next to you, it's not really a truck.

Keep the Ford.

Keep the Ford.

I beg to differ on the bail out funds. While Ford did not take the bail out money when Dodge and GM did they did receive a huge chunk of change. Here is just one of many web pages that explains exactly what Ford did. http://www.factcheck.org/2011/09/ford-motor-co-does-u-turn-on-bailouts/

Here is another good read on Ford and the "Bailouts". http://swampland.time.com/2011/09/30/what-the-controversial-ford-bailout-ad-got-wrong/

Also, I had to re-read the info on the 6.4 liter Ford Power Stroke fuel mileage. It was not a free spin kit but, rather a Gear Vendors overdrive. Sorry for any confusion.

Lol. Don't do that. I agree with you about keeping the Ford. Ford tried to keep it quiet about taking their government assistance. Fact is they were first to accept money from the government. Later they had an ad on that said something to the effect of them not taking any funds for a bail out. Truth be told it sounds like GM put some pressure on Ford to pull their add since it was not entirely true.

For now, I believe that keeping the Ford and working on the fuel mileage is the smart move for now. I see no reason why the Ford cannot get better mileage than it is currently getting.

do you have a warranty on the truck still? How long does it take you to take out the dpf delete and return to stock for emissions?

06 Dodge, 6 speed manual, edge mileage max, 35" tires, 4" lift
20 MPG around town
18 MPG @ 65 MPH highway
14-16 MPG @ 65 MPH with 8000lb trailer
12-14 MPG @ 75 MPH with 8000lb trailer
100% stock it was getting 2-4 MPG better in all cases. The bigger tires and lift really hurt MPG for this truck. I think it is all increased wind resistance.

96 Ford, 7.3L, 4 speed auto, stock
18 MPG around town
18 MPG @ 65 MPH highway
16 MPG @ 65 MPH with 7000lb trailer
With 4.10 gearing, it had a tough time going 75 MPH.

Yes i still have the warranty. I've talked to a few ford techs and they say aslong as its back to stock when you bring it in you wont have a problem.. Id say it takes about an hour to put the stock exhaust back in and 20 minutes to reload the stock tune.. if you wanted it just for mpg's id just do a delete pipe and thats like a 30 minute job

don't you need to get a programmer though so that no codes are happening?
