from everything Ive researched, I would go Longfields. nothing agianst trailgear, I ran some of thier stuff in my runner, but everyone knows longs hold up and they will stand behind them.

Agreed... I've been researching this myself - It really doesn't seem worth it to not go with Longs... Maybe if they were about $300 they would have a chance competing with Longs (Value v. Cost)

trail gear only tests theirs at 30 degrees and longs are done at 40. that in its self should tell you that they are not even in the same league with each other. if you are looking to save money you can look at a birfield eliminator kit. ive been running one long before the the longfield craze was around with 37"s and beat the ever living crap out of them and have never broken them. knock on wood. longs are pretty sweet and if ever needed to upgrade again i'd probably go with them but the eliminator has served me well and its cheap

GO LONGs, as far as Birf Eliminator, I had that in my 4runner and it took an amazing abount of abuse with 38's but eventually it broke, and I done a whole lot of damage, I should have stopped and pulled the shafts rather than proceeding with the trail.

My brother runs the eliminator kit without issues, but I personally don't care for them. Eliminators are cheaper because the cost includes standard spicer u-joints which don't stand a chance compared to the Longfields or TG's bell.

Overall strength plus you can't run Marlins new outer axle seal (which are a must to keep gear lube where it belongs) are the reasons I don't like them. They are however a LOT stronger than the stock Birfield :-\

The longs are stronger than any other option that has been mentioned. Dont skimp here, there are alot of places on the rig you can get by with a substitute, but unless you just like changing out birf in the middle of nowhere buy the longs. I dont want to rag on a vendor but the TG warranty is not what they claim. If you had one break how long would be acceptable to be without your rig? How many times a year do you feel like dealing with warranty issues? Do you really believe there will be no questions asked when you have a problem? TG makes some ok products that I have/do use but pony up the dough and get Longs and hubgears.

I have never had any issue with any trail gear products. We've built several toyotas with all TG parts and they are the easiest people to deal with. I ordered a set of Marlin HD seals the same time I ordered the Dirty 30's for my dads truck and it took almost a week longer to get parts from Marlin. Tg Dirty 30's have taken some good abuse in my dads truck with no problems. To get a lifetime warranty from Longfield you also have to order their $100 + hug gears, TG is definately a No Questions asked warranty nwithout buying anything else.

with the long fields you get the full lifetime warranty without hub gears

unless you strip the outer bell, but if the inner shaft or, cage or housing breaks it is still warranty,

also what other company can you call 24 hours a day for help no matter if you in alaska or what he will help you.

i have seen him also warranty stuff that the customer did wrong and messed up the joint.

trail gear you have to send yours in then they get inspected, where bobby just sends you one as you send him his back

trail gear is a good company dont get me wrong i have the sticker on my truck and all.

but to steal bobbies desighn somewhat is kinda messed up if you ask me.

ya i know its buisness but still.

thats my 2 cents and why i run longs in my yota.

Yea trail gear has some cool stuff but I try not to buy the things they have coppied from other people. Their stuff is super cheap but that is mostly because they get their stuff made in china with cheaper materials. They do stand by their stuff and they are really easy to deal with. If the not American issue isn't important to you I would definitely give them a try.

Trail Gear products are quality. I have no problem when companies outsource work to other countries. The "buy american" thing only hurts us. China is also stepping up their quality alot on some things.

However, Trail Gear wouldn't be where they are now if it weren't for their very poor business ethics. I refuse to support them.

I don't know if any of you went to the vendors show over EJS but Bobby had a whole booth outside. Obviously he must not be pissed a Trail Gear like everyone thought, because over half of his booth down there was Trail Gear products. If he's not bent enought to stop carrying their products I don't know why everyone is so butt hurt and complains about "stealing ideas" its common known fact that 30 spline is stronger than 27 so to keep with a direct replacement and make stronger there is only a couple ways to make it stronger, more splines, chromoly material. Some other company is bound to do the same thing eventually, I don't think it is really poor business ethics. If he wanted to do his own thing he should have come out with a shaft that didn't look exactly like a Birfield Joint.

As I stated before, i dont have any problem with TG products. I have been less than impressed with their customer service and warranty. My experience was certainly not no questions asked, and I had issues getting them to replace product in a timely fashion. In all fairness I, like 99% of bobbys customers, have never dealt with his warranty, but then thats kind of my whole point.

Have you heard of anyone needing the warranty so far on the Dirty 30's?? It's fair to say that nobody except testing machines have broken a Dirty 30 that I have read on all of the forums. Pleanty of people ran them in KOH this year. If you're going to buy Longs you can thank TG for the $30 discount you now get from TG's competion, for me I'll push the D 30's and people can save $100 to go toward other broken parts.
