Somebody tell me what color to paint them before the rings end up neon green (I'm fighting that urge tooth and nail) I've been everywhere from color case hardened to clear coat to flat black or even blued for the outer ring... most likely white for the wheel, or not.

Black...

You could always use socket head cap screws. They seem to hold up to the rocks pretty well and still able to use tools on them when you remove them. I couldn't imagine what 400 of them would cost, though ;)

I think grade 5 bolts would be fine but dont use the grade 5 washers. They bend and warp way easy. I used grade 8 bolts on mine though.

Whats wrong with neon green? I say green with black wheels

That's not the green I'm talking about ;) Think more day glow.

The rims will be returning to me flat black... so now I just need to decide what color the ring wants to be.

Maybe Jeremy could post some pics of his beadlock welding jig thinga-ma-jig. I remember seeing the original post but that was a long time ago. I'd really like to see it.:D

wheel challenged here ... what is and why a safety bead on 16+ wheels?
See the weld on the inside bead? On almost all 16" and down wheels there is a ridge like that built into the rim. It just helps keep the bead where it belongs.
do the neon green :p
heh, I stood at home depot for about 20 minutes staring at the rattle can wall.... walked out with some bright assed yellow. But it isn't on the rings yet so it might change still.

What kind of valve stems did you use? Where did you get them? How did you leak test it?

I'll be using some 45°, 60° or 90° metal stems, whatever he came up with. I made IFA in AF order them for me even though they closed their tire shop.
The hole in the outer ring would actually allow me to use a straight stem IF I always had a straight air chuck.
They aren't together yet, Hickey did a good job with the welder I don't think they will leak but I'll most likely put some RTV on them when I put them together.

Hopefully, the rims will be here in a few minutes and I'll start putting them together. I also have to wled something on the Blazer before I can wheel it

You guys are all so mean to me.

The rims turned out good... got started and although the day was getting a little warm everything seemed like it was going to come together nice

I got 4 longer bolts with non locking nuts to get things started

P4272656.jpg

I couldn't get the 90º stems that I wanted until next Wednesday so I decided to try some straight stems... I'll just use the stems from the old rims! Wrong, they are the wrong size. Off I go to the store for some short metal stems.... can't quite get the chuck on  I some how managed to spill half of my Equal while taking the stem out :mad2:

P4272657.jpg

Alright, I'll just use some rubber stems. They will bend enough and the ring will protect the stem anyway. It worked really well, with a straight chuck or a chuck for dual tires you go through the hole in the outer ring. With a normal chuck you can reach inside and hook it on, although that takes a bit of talent with that D60 hub in there, the back should be much easier as there is more room with the 14bolt hubs.

After my second torquing trip around the rim (15lbs) the coning had gotten far worse than acceptable and I just didn't like the feel of the bolts as far as tightening, so I decided to stop at one wheel until I can get some fan belts to stop the coning.

P4272665b.JPG P4272666.jpg

I decided to try my luck without silicon  I sprayed some water on it after I mounted it on the Blazer.... I could hear leaking that amounts to a slow bead leak on a normal rim.

Well today got me what I needed to get out wheeling before a full month has passed

I think the saftey bead will work very well, the tire was hesitant to pop over it, so it should be hesitant to slide back  One thing though, we ended up with a couple small gaps and figured it wouldn't hurt the beads function any... it shouldn't other than it's harder to seat the bead because it gives the air a place to get out.
