Dodge CTD Problems... Any ideas?

My brothers 02' CTD won't start...

He had a leak from a hose near his lifter pump, so he swapped out the lifter pump. After swapping the pump it refused to start. We tried to bleed the line between the fuel filter and the injector pump, it seems to bleed off, but still no start?

A little shot of ether (I know, bad on the Cummins) and it will fire right up, but its acting like no fuel is making it past the injector pump.

How likely is it the injector pump died?? It ran fine until he swapped out the lifter pump... Air in the system??

TIA

crack the fuel lines at the injectors and see if you have fuel there. I am willing to bet there's air in the lines, by cracking the lines you should get the air out of the lines as well.

my money is on air is in the system.

crack the lines at the injectors, try 1, 3, and 4. turn the key on so the lift pump runs (may take several on and off cycles) til you get fuel at the lines then close the line. do one at a time.

It's good to, but with a lift pump you can fill it by cycleing the key a bunch of times BEFORE you try and start it.

Note: don't cycle the key a bunch of times if it's cold and the engine hasn't started, it will turn your intake (above the heat plate) yellow :mad2:

So should I crack the lines right below the valve cover? or on the injector pump?

James, why 1,3,4? Should I then do 2,5,6?

Thanks for all the help guys

My poor bro (not mechanically inclined at all) has had a rough few weeks with this truck... :D

crack the lines at the valve cover.

1,3,4 are easier to get to.:D she'll start if you get fuel to those 3. it maybe rough at first but will smooth out once the air gets out.

really? is it the coating on the parts that turns yellow?

I dunno, that happened over a year ago and I think I've opened my hood once since then... maybe.... The piece is aluminium, I did rub on it a bit after I saw that and it didn't come off at all.

Edit: I cycled it a ton of times to make sure the can was full... at least I know my heat plate works really really really good

Well, you guys saved the day. James was dead on... cracked 1,3, and 4... gave it a crank and tightened them as they started to push fuel. Sure enough it fired right up. Saved my brother a chunk a change as he was ready to drop it off at the dealership. Thanks again!
