Dodge Ram 2500 Transmission Q's

So, I've got a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab 4x4 diesel with the 3-speed +OD automatic. For a while, the trans has been slipping a little, and now it's getting much worse. I've heard that these transmissions frequently go out around 100K miles. I've got 120K on this truck.

My question for the RME masses:

If I get a new transmission for this truck, is there a better option than just getting a regular replacement? Is there a better model trans available that will bolt in with minimal increased cost?

Bryson could answer that question quite well, he spent quite a bit upgrading the auto in his old Dodge.

I'm guessing you mean like th 5600 manual? I should've specified that I want to stick with an automatic setup.

Yeah, I ran across Goerend and ATS. Looks like that's the best option for a combo of price and hd performance. Based on various pricing it looks like going with Goerand or ATS is only 10-20% higher in cost than just a regular rebuild. Sound about right?

ive ran transmissions from 3 different shops here in utah and bd diesel. the only one that could even come close to holding my recently dynoed 596hp is from j&g transmissions off or 4500 south in slc. their number is 801-262-2321

Talk with J&G. They are great guys...

I am on my 2nd trans from them (sold the 1st truck, and the trans is still goin' strong)

First one was built with all ATS parts, but it was a while ago, and I've heard some not-so-good things about their newer parts (and customer service...)

Trans in my current truck runs out awesome! No ATS parts in this one. Converter is actually built locally, and J&G picks the best parts from all the manufacturers, and builds a super slushie with it!

ya....ats is s***. i blew that thing on the second 4x4 launch at 25lbs of boost at rmr. the one j&g built me is all suncoast parts and a howard tripple lock converter.
