So I have my truck in the Autotrader and I get an inquiry from their website last night, and it said

Autotrader said:
BUYER INFO
Name: Scott Jason
E-Mail Address: scott_32jason@****.com
Comments: I saw your in autotrader website and I am interested in it.What is your bottom price as the price there is $15,000

So I reply to him cause its seems like an honest inquiry. I ask him if he's local and if he would like to come take a look at it. Then I get this reply this morning

For some reason his wording and that seems like broken english to me. He's made me an offer and has not even seen it. I replied back to him answering his questions and again asked him if he was local and would like to come take a look at it.

What do you guys think?

Looks exactly like the wording I usually get from KSL.com emails from Africa

thats exactly what I was thinking...the only thing that threw me off is instead of offering me tons of extra he actually made me a legit offer and he has yet to say its for his client in Zimbabawe (sp?) :p

I'd go ahead and reply to him. As long as he's not asking for any personal information, I can't see any harm in it.

thats what I have been doing to this point...trying to get more info out of him but he's not giving it up (as of yet).

This does sound a bit odd to me. I would just let it run its course, but I would not divulge any personal informations in any regard see if this person is truely serious.

Sight unseen though and an offer 500 below asking this is weird.

Keep rollin with it until he mentions that he'll be paying with a cashier's check for $18K and you refund the difference....then tell him to lick something.

Looks like the same guy that my buddy called the cops on. The broken English is exactly the same, but in my buddies case he went by Reverend Scott. The cops had him complete the transaction and then waited for the guys who were supposed to come get his boat. They never showed, and the case was turned over to the Postmaster at that point. (Mail Fraud) Turns out the guy was in South Africa. I had a similiar offer on a car I have on KSL. Just told him to go away, and take some English classes.

My vote is it is a SCAM. Making that kind of an offer without even seeing it seems suspicious to me. :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

 I finally got another reply

Hi Caleb,

Thanks for your interest and and once again for your reply .We have reviewed your vehicle informations and after evaluation I'm delighted to tell you that my wife have commended your vehicle, with full interest and has asked me to carry on with this transaction.I have taken your words as regards the condition of the car,so test driving will not be necessary.

Payment will get to you in a cashier check of $22,500, which is a refund payment of a cancelled order earlier made by me.

Due to the policy of the company where I made the cancelled order this check has to be made out in this amount to you, because company policy only allows a refund payment on one cashier check.
So you are required to deduct the cost of your vehicle $14,500, when payment gets to you and refund balance of $8,000 to my agent ( the shipper ) for him to be able to offset shipping & tax charges, and other cosmetic repair costs, if any.

After payment has reached you and balance sent to shipper, the shipper's agent will come for inspection, pick up (of vehicle & signing of title papers), make some cosmetic touches and drive to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to us.
Please confirm this and forward the following informations;

Names:.......
Address:.......
Phone number:........

For payment to be made and send to you as soon as possible.
Your honesty, understanding and co-operation will be highly appreciated.
Have a wonderful week ahead.

Best regards
Scott Jason.

Tell him that he was too slow to respond and you took up a commended offer from a guy named Jenson Riley that paid with a cashiers check of $24,843 and that he said you could keep the difference and his wife.

I work for the lawfirm of Dewey, Chetem & Howe. For a small fee of $15,000 I could make this transaction work for all of us. Or tell the guy that you sold the truck to someone named Gett Bent for a load of beans and rice. Keep us updated.

How's this sound for a scam...... I'm selling A ground up restored 72 Chebby 4X4 on E Bay... Here's how it went down:

He contacts me from the Virgin Islands, wants to give me my way overpriced Buy-It-Now price. Cashier check on it's way, then I'll have to ship it to his vineyard in Boston............ I'm thinking, atleast give me a reach around huh pal????

Well, long story shortened, the truck now resides in Boston, and we're both tickled pink. Never blow off a possible sale,(like I almost did with this fruit loop) till the last minute.

Big difference here is, your guy wasn't asking for a "refund" of some of his check.
