Dolores Traingle roads and access

Looking at the Big Game Proclamation, got me wondering about hunting the Dolores Triangle unit for deer.

Boundaries are pretty straight forward:

Grand County—Boundary begins at the Utah-Colorado state line and the Colorado River; south along this state line to the Dolores River; northwest along this river to the Colorado River; northeast along this river to the Utah-Colorado state line. USGS 1:100,000 Maps: Moab, Westwater. Boundary questions? Call the Price office

How is access into the area? Ease and condition? Hunt is late November into early December. I would be in Monty, ideally with another rig (stock GC, Wrangler or Disco, depending on who wants to drive).

Thanks.

I bet it would be good hunting, there's many roads in the area but only a few ways in and out by 4x4. If you could take your 4x4 and setup a base camp, then use a 4wheeler to access the smaller trails, I bet you would do well. You could go in from Glade Park, take DS road out to the UT/CO border and head in. For quicker access, you could ford the Dolores River by Dewey Bridge, but the river will probably be 30" deep in the Fall.

With a 4wheeler you can access the Dolores Triangle from Gateway, by going up Sheep Creek Rd. That road is now closed to any vehicle over 50" wide due to a washout, so your Monty or any other 4x4 is out. Plus, the road is very steep and has a number of tight switchbacks, would be pretty interesting in a 4x4 even if it was opened.

Randy & I took a trip to the Dolores Triangle in mid-November and it was pretty easy going. Here's the report- http://www.rockymountainextreme.com/showthread.php?t=59892

There is also lots of land up there that is used for cattle grazing and much of it is private property. Most of the private land is towards Glade Park, and some parts of that area is National Forest, so you'd have to know where you were hunting.

On that trip we saw a handful of nice bucks, one of them was fairly large and they weren't too spooked with us driving by.

I had read your trip report, and that is part of what got me thinking about hunting it.

If I do draw out, I'll have to hit you about for details about the area (or of course you could come along).
