Anybody ever replaced the locks on a YJ full door? My passenger is stuck locked I can't get it opened, and the driver side is just a piece If I lock it I can't get it unlocked with a key.

Who would sell the stuff to replace all that crap? Or is there someone I can take it to?

Are you sure it's the actual lock cylinder? YJ's are famous for the rods inside to come off and not actually unlock the door when you turn the key. I'd open it up and see what you find first. Check the actual handle on the inside too, since it's all a plastic piece of junk.

Mepco sells all the parts if you need new stuff

Pretty sure the lock is screwed on the passenger side, all the rods are connected and plus I don't think the key is supposed to turn 360 degrees.

I get a problem with the little stamped steel piece the goes inbetween the lock barrel and the locking mechanism. it is so cheap that is just doesn't work anymore so I never leave anything expensive in my jeep and I never lock it up...kinda sucks but there is little I can do....

if there is a better part out there I would like to get it but as it stands, I wouldn't replace the parts as they are complete junk.

Any locksmith shop should have what you need or they can order the parts for you. They can also re-key the new locks to your existing key. It would probably be around $20 per lock. I could help you but my shop is in West Valley, probably a little out of your way i would guess. 801-966-6767

I bet Mepco would charge more just like they charge more for everything else they sell. plus they cant re-key it to your key.

I also have a YJ with this problem. My problem exists also with the little stamped steel piece at the end of the cylinder. I believe it is held on with a C clip of some sort. pretty crappy design. The clip wears out (bends too) and allows the bent part to fall off. All I have been able to find are more cheap replacements. Course', I'm a tightwad. If I were to spend the money, I could prolly get it fixed right. And I hate having to fix it all the time so I never lock it. Just don't leave anythign valuable in there.

As a side note, YJ are indeed notorious for the connecting rods falling off due to the plastic retaining clips breaking all the time. After replacing numerous plastic retaining clips on my various connecting rods, I decided to junk them altogether. I went to Home Depot and bought a few Acorn Style push washers and they have worked great. Been using them for a few years now and haven't had a problem. Which seems worth it to me when I was having to tear the door apart about every 4-6 months to replace the plastic clips. Just thought I'd share what has helped me out, maybe it will help you guys too. Prolly cost me $3 to complete all the connections.

I would pay decent money to have some good aftermarket pieces to fix that stamped steel problem...it is to the point where I dont run with interior panels or that cover over the locking mechanism...just too much of a pain to pull it all apart just for the silly rods....for the rods, I have welded them to the metal spring clips where I can, it takes some gentle tacking but it has been goign strong for about 4 months now....but the locks....forget about it, those stamped steel pieces are crap!!
