Maybe sign up now and take advantage of the special offer? $30 for komkast beats $25 or whatever for some 256k service thats over 10 times slower. :-\

Cable blows!

Get cable :greg: :hickey:

Cable Sucks! Television that is (Dish is the only way to go cheaper more channels), but for computers it's great! If I were you I would find the local ISP who offers a fiber optic connection to the internet. We have one here where I live called Sure West and they charge the same as your average DSL subscription but you get a 100/1000 connection to the internet which ends up being about 2-3 times faster than DSL. You can support up to 50 desktops off of one line into the house and not tell a difference in speed from using only one desktop. Helluva ride for online gaming like Halo! :D

:D BTW, any one on here play Halo for PC online? If so, PM me and we'll get a group together once a week and play. We can call it our Halo Home Evening. All in favor, say eye! Anyway, let me know if you're interested.

I don't think residential fiber access is available in utaw yet, I heard of some big not-to-distant project to provide homes with all types of communications via fiber optic lines at a reasonable price. Superfast internet too, something like 4 or 5 or 6 Mbps if I remember correctly.

not stealing

if the connection is open, it is not stealing. most routers allow WEP encryption which requires the connecting comp to have a pass phrase, or MAC filtering which only allows specified devices to connect. Trying to compromise a network that someone has attempted to secure is illegal, but if it is open it is open

It is called the UTOPIA project. I don't know if it is going to happen though, because it would cost the cities lots of money for the groundwork, which in turn would raise our taxes, plus they cannot get all of the cities in the valley to participate...seems like it has not been spoken about or made much news in the last 6 months or so

I think that you will see 802.16 implimented before you see Utopia around. 802.11 is the IEEE standard for radio signals designed to travel around 100 feet, but with some tweeks they can go MUCH further :) . 802.16 is designed to travel 30 miles, more along the idea of ISP's to provide access to a city or a city to provide access to their residents.
