so has anyone put dual batteries in a tj/lj? where did you mount them? I have seen the one that mounts two optima batteries but it is only for them... so where would those that have other types put a second battery? There is a great place under the tub in front the rear axle that a nice box could be mounted but it would have to be a weather tight one.

I am just starting my search so haven't really looked yet.... forgive me.

Yes one of the problems with wanting 2 batteries is that optimas are smaller than most lending them to the task.

I had a friend that put an optima blue top under his bronco, he never had any issues with it. I believe he had a skid plate and covered the terminals in grease. I don't know why you would need a sealed box for any sealed battery, so long as you stay out of river crossings. (even sealed batteries have vents on them) (Do not take my one story as a good thing to do but it has been done so it is something to look into.)

btw I stuffed two red tops under the hood of an xj, they are small batteries for sure...

Anyone ever thought of running two 6v optimas or the like? As I understand it 6v are much better for deeper discharge recovery and overall better performance. So you could run two 6v next to each other in the same space as a 12v, but have a better system than just one 12v.

I could be wrong but I think know DAA has dual battery's in his LA

I don't. Thought I wanted a dual batt setup, for years. But after years of looking at the expense in the neighborhood of a kilobuck for the systems I was interested in, and realizing I'd been getting along just fine without, I decided I really don't want one after all.

I do carry a jumper pack, the Antigravity gear one that doesn't weigh anything or take up any space. But I haven't needed it either.
