This one went to Mallard Lake 17-19 October.

The prefabbed facility was picked up from the Forest Service work center by one trailer and taken to the trailhead, then it was distributed one wall per trailer.

Volunteers dug a hole half way down and ran into 3 big rocks, then Forest Service showed up and dug a new hole.

Material cost is about $2,000 per unit. They are built pretty tough to withstand snow loads, this means using more expensive materials. Also they are pretty big, so there's a lot of materials period. The installation is done by volunteers with their own rigs, so no expense to the club or Forest Service there.

I think it would be kinda cool to post a materials list and a plan giving dimensions so other areas can easily build these if needed.
