OK they are not as bad as networld....but AT LEAST the networld cs spoke ENGLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriousely, what is up with customer service in INDIA trying to diagnose my dsl modem???? After a week of "call back in 8 hours" I got pissed!!
Finally got to speak to someone in the US then!
"you'll have to buy a new modem or renew your contract for a year"
WTF?? I am not renewing when I can't understand you customer service...."we'll give you a number for US customer service that is good for 30 days" 30 Days???? again WTF I only get to talk to a person I can understand if I have another problem in 30 days????
I took 20 minutes of repeating "cancel my service" to convince them that I REALLY wanted to cancel my service!!:mad2:

On the otherhand, Qwest has been very helpful so far, and cheaper!! Talk to them enough and you can work a good deal :)

So if your still with me, how can I set up qwest without the MSN crap??
(should have there stuff tomarrow)

not that I know but you dont have to have msn as your internet service provider. You could go with qwest.net or whoever you choose for your isp and just use whatever browser you would like to connect with, without having to use the msn stuff. It is very easy to set up that way. should take about 5 minutes

I was told by a friend whom made the mistake of ordering msn and not the qwest dsl, he was not able to use his own email (his own domain) and could only use the msn carp this was a few years ago so things might have hcanged a little bit, but I do not know.

I currently have qwest (wife's work pays for it) and not the msn version and I am able to utilize my own email addresses via powertripz.com domain.

something to consider when ordering your msn service so if it is not to late and it works for you use it, if you want to use your own email servers then you are going to probably need to get something other than the msn stuff.

you are patially right on that bone down. there are two types of qwest accounts one is qwest basic and the other is qwest premium. the qwest basic does not have email accesability. the qwest premium however does.

the msn is just a front end thing...you can use (and always have been able to) your own email domains.

Marc, what do you mean by not using the MSN crap (I agree, it's crap). Do you want to use another ISP with Qwest? (Like Xmission?) Or do you just not want to use the MSN browser crap but still have MSN as your ISP through Qwest?

I will use msn as the ISP, I just don't want all their crap....Basically what I mean is can I use qwest/msn without using the MSN homepage crap (I assume it is like any ISP and I can just use Firefox and my own home page to avoid the crap) The price as I got it was cheeaper to do there premium msn account. It would end up costing more to do qwest dsl and anothe isp, atleast for the next 12 months....
Email is not a concern, I use gmail and always use it via the web.
Guess what I am after is only installing what is needed from MSN and not all the other stuff. (since it is MSN i assume it will have lots of stuff I don't need or want) Or what I can go in a clean out after the install is done.

If you're using MSN, I think you're stuck with how they want you to use it. Good luck getting rid of all of it's 'features'. I don't have any personal experience, but on people I've 'helped' at their homes with it, I wouldn't touch it.

Quest's service uses PPOA onthe modem (transparently to the user), the circuit is seperate from the service, They give you DSL, but someone else hands you out the IP and backhauls your internet traffic. Anyone who has the right agreement and the right equipment can serve you in the Quest network, you should be able to ask them who the other providers are.

hey marc you dont have to install any of the msn stuff. all you have to do is install the modem. once you have the username and password in the modem you can use any browser that you want. i.e. firefox. I have the same package for the internet at my home and am doing the same thing that you are trying to do. the msn does not have to be on your computer at all.

what he said...don't install all their crap...you won't be able to get rid of it. You should get a username and password for the modem, login and enter that info and you should be done. If you want/need help I'd be happy to come help you out. Once the Modem has that info you can use the same browser you are now (or whatever one you want).

Well, the way they make it sound, it seems as though you HAVE to use the MSN stuff so you get a lot of people insisting that they have to have it loaded. For example, my father-in-law, he swears he has to use it (even though I have shown him otherwise) and he thinks the only way for him to get his email is by clinking on the email link within the MSN crap  it's quite frustrating :(

You don't have to run the software

go to http://192.168.0.1

and go through the advanced setup.

Although occasionally they send out a modem that hasn't been initialized, inwich case you'll have to run the cd part way :( You can (if using XP) set a restore point before you run the disc and then just do a restore, or you can hook it up to an old slow computer and run the software on that. Also, don't use the usb connection, that sucks, use the ethernet

After you get it all going, go to this page and follow the directions there, you'll have a lot more enjoyable internet experience.

You usually get the modem before the activation date, they will NOT turn you on until the activation date.
