Been doing alot of reading on EB's lately. It sounds like the 76-77 are the best years to get. But one thing I found reading was that some people have a big problem with c4's, and doing any type of hard wheeling with them. Is the 3 speed the only way to go on a EB?????

I replaced my 3 speed with a c4 and it is doing fine. Just build it up. I wheel pretty hard and the auto is the only wat to go in my opinion. The nv435 is pretty common to with a very good crawl ratio if you like the manual. If you want to do more mods a c6 or ZF could go in there too. I have a 3 speed for super cheap if you go that route.

I've had C4's in both mine and never had any problems, but I've never been a hardcore wheeler. I like the C4, just wish it had an extra gear on top. Cheap to rebuild.

The '76 is better than the '77 imo, I swear my '76 was significantly more powerful than the '77 I have now, even though the components are nearly identical.

Old school there were some problems....but NOT anymore.
Keep it cool and use good parts in a rebuild and it will last!!
Many high horse guys are using c-4's as a 3 spd alternative to a powerglide.
Mine was rebuilt in 89 and still running strong:D

Edit: Yes run a cooler! Heat is the biggest enemy of an auto!

What Milner said. Curries are using C4s in a lot of high horse power applications. They are small and can be built strong.

How much are you willing to spend.

I have one at the shop right now a friend of mine (Nick) has had sitting here for 2 years and hasn't touched it. it was built 7 or 8 years ago. it needs a couple of changes. but it has D44 front alloy shafts with super joints, detroit, 4.88's and one blown hub assembly, Ford 9" rear 31spline shafts with 4.88 gears, detroit locker, 5.0 efi F150 motor rebuilt with 5 or 6 wheeling trips on it, C-4 rebuilt in 2002 5-6 trips on it. 38" super swampers on 15 inch white spoke wheels. It needs a different set of wheels and tires (38's are too big). It also needs to have the front springs installed properly (full width axles with out moving the springs inboard at the axle. the front shock mounts need to be rebuilt. Needs better seats and needs a lot of weight shaving.

I think he would let it go for $5000

I also know of a couple that are going for around $15000.

Prices on Early Broncos have dropped in the last two months so it is a total buyers market right now.

let me know if I can help you out. Dustin

That EB dose sound like it has alot of nice stuff, but I don't have that much $$$. I've seen a couple for around 3-4K thats more in my price range just want to get something I can slowly build up, and keep street legal.
