Ebay question

I was high bidder (only bidder) on a part on Ebay. There was no minimum bid, no reserve and the bid went all the way to the last day. Just before the it was over the seller canceled the auction.

Can they do that? I'd imagine he did it thinking he'd get more out of the item. Is there a way to push the issue?

I'm pretty sure they are not supposed to be able to cancel for just any reason. It also dings them when they cancel. You could email ebay and push the issue a little but it really isn't going to do any good (besides *maybe* getting them suspended/banned). If the seller doesn't want to sell the item, it's highly unlikely they will regardless.

ding ding ding snipe that auction and use an odd amount not rounded dollars... snipe it with an amount that ends like .74 or .97, well you get the idea.

Yeah, done that before, but this was a low key no brainer. Just didn't see the point.

I recall a 12 hour cancel rule before auction end.

I also recall they needed a valid e-bay reason to recall the auction.

Send a email to e-Bay and ask for an explanation of cancelation.

Yep, I'm not sure of what the window is, and I think it's even a bigger window if there are bids on it. I don't know the exact details though.

I hate ebay, for reasons exactly like this, and all the fraud that happens.

There are supposed to be guidelines against cancellations, but it's never enforced. The buyer can cancel at any time claiming any number of reasons. There might be some recourse by contacting eBay, but probably not much will be done. I always note in my eBay auctions that I reserve the right to cancel at any time. I have cancelled a few auctions, but usually not so late in the game.
