We bought a fancy-ass Maytag, super high capacity, whoopty-do feature-filled, water saving clothes washing machine a couple years ago. Ever since then, my pants do not come out clean. They no longer smell like stanky pants, but they are nearly just as dirty looking as before washing. I've tried every setting in a vain attempt at clean pants. I'm 800 miles from home and I just pulled these "clean" pair of pants out of my clothes bag after a fresh shower.
That's not grease and oil stains. It's dirt and sand from chaining up on I-70 last week. I washed these pants twice. My wife out them in the dryer and then in my clothes bag. These pants are only a few months old.

I'm ready to fill this fawker with tannerite and send a recycling round at it.

What washer model do you have, and does it get the damn job done?

I have some friends who do the appliance game and they swear by the older, louder, less water saving stuff, because it gets the job done and lasts forever.

Most of the newer stuff is gold plated in the first place, (Super Expensive) and only designed to last 5-8 years...

I just took my whole (LG front load) washer apart to replace the rear bearings and seal. The seal went bad and water got into the bearings and rusted them out. Then the rusty bearing material got all over the stator and made it run slower.

Basically I realized (while it was apart) the pump, drain hoses, stator and the entire drum was gross and needed to be removed and pressure washed out. The two bearings and seal cost me about $35. I had to take the whole thing apart to replace them anyways. But I ended up with a brand new washer.

Maybe your pump and drain hoses are clogged and the drum is dirty.

I have the Whirlpool Duet. They clean well but they have been a maintenance nightmare.

The guys at the appliance repair shop (that sold me the parts) basically said two things:

#1 Liquid soap (strength) sucks compared to powder and it clogges stuff up: they told me to use powder and pour it in with the clothes in the drum.

(Makes sense: if it clings to the inside of the plastic container, it will cling to the inside of the drum and hoses).

#2 Always leave your front load washer door open when not in use to let it dry out. (I concur with this after observing the inner workings. They don't drain as efficiently as a top load by design).

Ours is a top load washer. We have used both powdered detergent and tide pods (snack-size).

We generally leave the lid open.

This has been a problem since the buying the damn washer. I'm embarrassed to go anywhere because my pants always look dirty.

This only works for front loaders


The problem with your machine is that it doesn’t put enough water in the drum to clean the clothes. Google your model and you should be able to adjust the sensor to allow it to fill up more.

For people looking at new washing machines the way to go is a 30lb commercial machine they are about 3000.00 but you never have to buy another machine for as long as you live. Can easy handle blankets and sleeping bags at home an has the options to put all you soap and softeners on pump system.

You have no options other than selling it and getting a new one. There is an appliance shop on 5th west in bountiful that sales refurbished old ones for a couple hundred they don’t look cool but they sure can clean good.

After a little research, I've realized that my washer is an "impeller" style. It doesn't have an agitator. IT DOESN'T HAVE AN AGITATOR!!

Apparently, the impeller style is more gentle on your clothes, particularly more delicate fabrics. BUT IF YOUR CLOTHES HAVE A SPINE LIKE ANY REAL AMERICAN'S DOUBLE FRONT DENIM CARHART'S DO, YOU NEED A DAMN BOAT PROP IN YOUR WASHER! You know, to agitate things properly. Denim is too stiff and unyielding for the wispy washing style of the impeller.

This explains why my wife's clothes always come out clean. They are so wispy and delicate. Even her jeans are all wispy and girly.

We are in the market for new W/D. I was thinking of picking some up on a black Friday sale. Any recommendations for new ones that do work well? I was told by the guy at Home Depot to steer far away from Samsung units (most returns or repairs) and go for the LG units. My wife wants the top loader. Suggestions?

We had the front loaders for a year before my wife gave up and sold them on CL. We went back to good old fashioned top loaders with an agitator and havent regretted it since. Bonus, the pair were less than the cost of a front load washer. Kenmore which I believe is Maytag when I looked at the back cover.

One of these with out the base is the ticket 100% programmable. You’d have to change the drain since they gravity drain and get 220 to it and you’d be getting shit done. I have dreams on having one in my house just the thought of not having a to deal with laundry detergent and softener bottles anymore sounds amazing.

When you extracting so fast that you can damn near wear your clothes straight out of the washer you’re living.

Our GE took a shit 4 years about we bought it. Got a higher end LG top loader and it’s been great. Takes a king sized comforter fairly well. Other than a washer cleaning pack every few months it’s been rock solid. Been using what ever HE liquid soap Costco has on sale. Only thing is that grease stains don’t always come out. Spray and wash spot treat before running the cycle gets 99% of them out.

Pour a small amount of dish soap on grease stains and let it sit a while. Usually a few drops will do it.
