EJS law enforcement in Moab

I'm at the point in my LTJ stretch job where I know I won't be able to finish the front of my rear wheel wells. I could weld in the pieces (they are made) but I don't have time to lengthen the rocker guards and build internal structure to protect them and they are way too pretty crunch and mangle the first time out.

So, as a result I have no way to mount flares so I won't be running them. How bad do you think Jonny Law will be in Moab with no fender flares during EJS? I can run mud flaps if I need to.

Kind of a relative question, but thought I'd throw it out here.

Most of the time you're ok, especially if you are with a Safari group. I've seen and known of some people who have gotten tickets because they are cruising around town in non-street vehicles, but if you're heading to a trail you should be fine. Most of the cops don't show up until the middle of the week around Wed./Thurs.

My experience has been that they may pull you over for minor infractions like that, but as long as you're minding your business and not making an ass of yourself and not blatently causing trouble, you'll get off with a warning. Oh yeah and don't give them attitude about pulling you over for something little like that. They like to use minor stuff like that as an excuse to pull people over and make sure you're not driving drunk. Last year during EJS I was pulled over for driving 4mph over the speed limit on Sand Flats road. I was respectful (not kissing ass, just respectful and compliant) to the UHP officer and he gave me a warning for speeding and no mud flaps (not even a fix-it ticket). On the same road, same night, I saw SEVERAL people out peforming sobriety tests - DUIs are what they're looking out for in most cases.

We've never had an problems and our rig is a walking, talking issue. I agree with Yakinaked, I think the majority of the stops are to check sobriety. We have been pulled over for a tail light that was out, but it was definitely just an excuse because all they did was ask if we knew it was out and looked at the registration and we went on our merry way.

Ditto. I've run for several years with no rear fenders or flaps. I've been pulled over a couple of times. I was very respectful and friendly. They warned me on the flaps, but my impression is they were more concerned with real safety (seatbelts, dui, etc)

same as above,
but make sure you have your proof of registration and proof of insurance handy. If you get pulled over that is something they will ticket you for, I know the hard way.

No proof of registration = $100
No proof of insurance = $400

at least until you provide proof... :D

Thanks for the input. I try to always respect the law, I just hate to give them an excuse to pull me over. I have license and insurance cards in the rig at all times as it was, and will be my daily around town driver.
