Electrically engaged lockers

That is enough for me not to even consider the Eaton. Cross shafts do break and I have broken one. Looking at the thing I cant see how it would even aproach the strength of a detroit or a ARB. When Eaton came out with the gov lock they probably claimed it was a strong design. Failures will not show up right away, but as the cross shaft holes in the carrier walow out they will give it up.
Am I confused, or don't all open carriers have a cross shaft? That would mean there are millions and millions of cars on the road with cross shafts, but you don't hear about them "wallowing out" or breaking. The cross shaft in the Eaton Electrics are huge, BTW.

They do but once you get into the bigger or stronger diffs they have at least two cross shafts. There is a reason a powerlock or an ARB have two, and I beleive that that Tibus thing rckcrlr talked about has more than that. 14bolts have two stock, unless they have the weak Eaton diff.

I'm thinking you need to bust out a pic of one o' your lockers, with your calipers over the cross shaft. (I'd like to know the size just out of curiosity...)

Cross shafts break or wallow out the carrier regularly, usually when used with a drop-in locker. (subjecting the stock/weak carrier to forces it wasn't necessarily designed for) Stronger open carriers sorta have two cross shafts, in the shape of an "X". It's really one piece, but you get the idea.

Wouldn't the ratcheting of a lunch box locker be an obvious reason why a cross shaft and it's hole wallow out? They are basically knocking back and forth inside the carrier with all the load on the cross shaft. The Eaton would be somewhat of a different force, as it does not ratchet. Not to mention the whole carrier was designed with big tires and high torque from the outset, where a lunch box locker is tossed into a carrier designed only for open differentiation.

Is it really? I am not saying it is not, but untill it is proven by years of use I am sceptical. It has the Eaton name which is mostly a plus based on their big rig stuff but they have also made junk(Govlock for example). If I was in the market for a selectable locker I would go with the proven ARB and let others be the ones to find out how the Eaton holds up.

I'm happy to oblige. :D I know what the ARB has proven itself to be to me.

When I used to judge I can't tell you how many people would come through my obstacle without lockers because their ARBs were having issues with this or that...I know others have had good experiences with them BUT I wont ever own one unless I get it dirt cheap or free :D (even then I think I would look into just selling it and getting something else  )

I have, however, seen a D44 Detroit Electrac break. It wasn't under what I would consider an abnormal amount of abuse, and it broke before the shafts did....
I mistakenly thought you were talking about the Eaton E-locker in this post.

Out of the electrics on the market I still think the Eatons are the way to go...
Where does one get an Eaton Locker and what is the price range for a dana 44? Just wondering based on the price of a ARB.
