Electronic Circuit Project Ideas?

I love designing electronics stuff as a hobby and i'm trying to think of some new electronics projects to further build my skillz. I don't really need anything myself and I don't want to blow money on making stuff that has no use, so if I could find something that would sell, it would allow me to invest some initial money into designing/building cool stuff.
I'm thinking maybe something automotive, and universal enough or in enough demand to maybe sell a few on ebay or local. Something that's cool, or that doesn't really exist, or is too expensive, or is very specific in it's purpose; a certain kind of automotive gauge or whatever... Something simple even that would have been impractical to have engineered due to cost or even something custom designed for something you may need? When have you wished there was some kind of thingy that let you do whatever?

I have a bunch of random electronic stuff for building who knows what that a guy gave me at a garage sale. I wanted the little shelf organizer and he said "free, as long as you take what's in it!"

They look like little black bugs. square body with lots of little metal legs poking out. They look like the thingys that plug into a motherboard??? Also a bunch of other random stuff. i have no idea what they are for. Want 'em?

Shortly after starting this thread I decided on a project and started building.
It's a high speed programmable length automatic wire cutter for helping me out at work making wiring harnesses. Feeds wire at 4 ft/sec and is accurate and repeatable to like 1/16". Necissary? no. Cool? yes. lol
I'm gunna need another new project idea soon...

How about an electronic speedometer compensator that would correct the speedometer reading for oversized tires without having to swap the speedo gear. It would only work for the newer rigs with electronic speedometers. You could have two settings for those who switch tires over for winter vs summer. You would need to make a circuit that would change the frequency of a pulse train to make it work.

I the 70's we made dune flag poles with lights running up and down in different patterns. I think it would be easier with led's that are available today.

Another thing that would be nice for time and distance rallies would be a readout that would give you required speed to travel in order to maintain t/d requirements before you get to a check point. In the old days we used a Curta calculator or a slide rule to keep our speeds correct. You would have to have constant feed of Speed, Time, and Distance. Have not done this for years so it is probably already on the market in Europe or back east or California.

This will give you a better idea of what is required. We used two stop watches and a odometer that read in hundreds with a clip board and plenty of sharp pencils.

This is actually a really good idea. I know these already exist but I think they're like $200. I might look into this one.
