Emergency Service Project in San Rafael Swell!

U4WDA and Castle Country King Crawlers 4x4 Club have organized an emergency service project in San Rafael Swell in coordination with the Price BLM Field Office. The project is in response to recent trail damage that occurred on the Devil's Racetrack OHV trail.

A group will meet in Price (details below) and caravan down to the worksite. We need to represent with as many volunteers as possible to make a strong showing with the BLM. We are requesting that a minimum of 10 workers attend to allow for completion of the project. Even if you don’t have a 4x4 for transport to the work site, meet in Price and some seats will be available for additional passengers.

When:
Saturday February 17 at 8:30 AM

Where:
Gas-n-Go in Price (104 West 100 North)

What:
Bring gloves, personal lunch and water, rakes, shovels, and handsaws (no power tools allowed)

Please attend if possible! Thanks!

Wally, call me back. I deleted your voice mail before I got your number.

BTW, Zubicon and I are meeting at the McDonalds on the Lehi exit at 6:30. Anyone else wanting to caravan down is welcome.

OK, just a quick report on this project so this can be put to bed. The Law Enforcement and Resourse Planner sent out most of the 40+ volunteers that showed up to Eva Conover and North Cole over Fix It Pass to clean up. There were about 15 of us that went with the LE and RP to repair the damage, along with the person responsible.

Most of the repair party were not aware the responsible person was among us for obvious reasons. He seemed remorseful especially with the turn out at such short notice. I can tell you that is not over for him but between turning himself in and helping with the repairs this should way in his favor when he goes to court.

Not only did we repair the recent damage but we eliminated a number of older braids and there is even going to be a slight re alignment of the trail in one spot just north of the trail namesake (Devils Racetrack).
This trail is one that I have deep feelings for having conversed many times with the Director of the Price Field Office at the time the BLM officially marked the trail. When he made the decision to keep the trail open he was very much swayed at the time by the involvement of the user groups. It is one of our jewels within a WSA that we need to protect.

That's awesome. It's so cool the person responsible turned himself in, in my opinion that means he is truly sorry.
You guys are so cool to drop weekend plans and perform a public service as important as this.
Many thanks to all that participated from me and my wife ( and youngin who has'nt seen this place yet, but soon).
Again you guys are awesome.

No doubt - Thanks!!!
The person responsible, how did he find out about the clean up? Is he a member of RME or etc? ...Not that it really matters, I guess...

I think he was drunk but some were along the way he damaged his steering and he couldn't turn right. That is what caused alot of going off the trail. He really did very little damage. He ran over two live trees (the size of a bush) and knocked over a couple of dead trees. The damage he did took all of a yew minutes for a couple of people to clean up. But it was a good chance to show the powers that be we're serious about taking care of our environment. We spent much more time raking out old tracks from off trail atv's. After we raked the ruts we through rock and dead tree branchs around to make it look some what natural.

I don't think he belonged to any club ether.

I hope the BLM people were taken back by the number of people who showed up. They came from all over the state. It was a good showing

Well done! We got there about 12:00. It was a little frustrating for some of us because there were more people than work. BLM was cautious about what they would and would not let us do. That was a nice problem to have for once...too many people! the 4wd Community really showed up. Great job guys! the local OHV clubs are very appreciative!
