I did a 1.6 8v swap with mine, and I bored it, and put an isky cam in it. One thing to be aware of is shaving the block and the head to much. My machinist recommended it, and I ended up having to get an adjustable cam sprocket. The reason being is that when the timing belt was tightened up, it retarded the cam timing about 3 degrees. The low end power was great, but once it hit 3 grand there was nothing. I used the cam sprocket to get the cam timing back where it should, then timed the ignition after that. To make a long story short, be careful how much you take off.
My overall impressions are this: It has lots more power than the 1.3. With it I could barely do 45 on the highway with the stock axle gears, and the 4.89 t-case, and 31's. Now it will run out of gear before it runs out of power. It is waaaaaay off from being a power house by any means but it is tons better than the 1.3. If I had it to do over again, I'd look into the 2.0 or the 2.5 v6 swap. they are both aluminum and lightweight, but the swaps are really spendy. The 2.5 has close to 180hp I think. The diesel option would be neat, but it could turn into a spendy project, and the sami tranny usually doesn't last long behind one.

Good luck
