Were you on the official trail by chance? we were just getting off prichett, and I figured it happened around the same time...Here is what I heard.

He was flown out and he had a broken collar bone. I also heard that the jeep was in 2WD unsuspectingly when she whent down. Dad should be fine

No, like I said we just came off Pritchett and was running BTR's backwards. Or do you mean were we on the official trail ride of Pritchett? no, we started after the bricade left at 1pm and saw the EJS trail ride go over yellow hill as we were coming up to it - at roughly 2:30pm and the roll over happened about 2 hours later.

That roll did not need to happen. No offense to the people on the trail ride, but they shoudl have all had a strap behind them going over that ledge. On these types of things the leader does not know the competency level of it's driver and should have demanded the strap on all of them.

The trail leader? didn't know what the heck was going on and in his efforts of getting the rig back on it's tires, almsot seriously injured others. I'm not going to go into details here because it will piss me off again, but he wanted people on a VERY strong strap that he had (with hooks and it was rated at an amazing 10k lbs - his words) when there was a JK sitting right there, lined up to do the pulling. Then after he agreed to let the JK do the pulling, he wanted people under the rig helping to lift it up - this is where I lost it and took over telling everyone to get away.

I'll give the cudo's for the emergency situation and care of the injured. He did seem to know how to care for the guy, land a hellicopter in the wind, and etc. But as for trail smarts, not a chance...

Before I left, I heard a bunch of people wanting to turn around he told them no, we were continuing on that turning around would take longer. These people were obviously scared at this point and again, no strap on them to keep them from doign the same thing again.

Rant off.. Delete or move if you see fit. And again, sorry for the hijack.

That obstacle looks mean as hell!
As for the trail leader, he sounds like he made some poor decisions. ultimately it's up the driver to do what he wants and is capable of. the driver should have insisted on a strap or turn around and go back.
if the trail leader made a mistake, it began when he let her on the trail in the first place.

Just to clear this up and then get it back on track the leader told her she should use the strap she told him I have done this before and will be fine. He himself went down it without a strap no problem. She just went a little to fast coming down, thats all. She gassed it when she started going over but her tires were not on the ground so they just spun. accidents happen I do have more pictures of the jeep and a few coming down high dive.

He himself went down it without a strap no problem. She just went a little to fast coming down, thats all. Okay. That story is MUCH different than what Wayne said. The way you put it, it sounds like the leader did his part, offered help, and was refused.

at least there are some pics for the compass!?;)

Like I said before, I wasn't there and he was - he watched the entire thing happen. All I know is a strap woudl have prevented it and after the fact the trail leader? knew nothing of recovery. Come on, a 10k lb strap with metal hooks on the end - it seriously looked like the $10 strap from Harbor Freight. That's not bad enough, but get people under it to help lift?? Nuts... The pictures show this as well.

She could have refused, that wouldn't surprise me. There was no strap out or available for others to use, telling me it wasn't part of the ritual or a back up plan. Her TJ was 'trail ready'. It had a Tera long arm kit, winch, bumpers, etc. So it's very possible she's done it before unassisted. I wasn't there when it happened, and I never talked to the girl after the fact. Other than answer her question of 'is it totaled? and how do I get it out of here?'. Yes, it was totaled. The tub had buckled in several places, the windsheild frame and cowl were smashed flat/buckled. The front axle had damaged control arm mounts that also folded. I told her it was probably safe to drive out if she wanted to get it out and then call for a tow truck to save on towing costs.

As for the leader making the mistake of letting her on, no, I dont' think he made a mistake there. Her rig was very capable to run a 8 trail. Was she? Who knows, and trail leaders can't get that unless they take the time to ask questiosn of each and every driver. I saw them leave that morning and there were probably 30 rigs - that would have taken ~3 hours to interview each driver to figure out their competency level. Nobody can expect that from the leader.
