So I generally dont document much of anything that I do to my rigs on here, But I feel that this forum is definately lacking in the forced induction department so here it goes

Ever since I bough my 2008 JKU I have hated the lack of power to the point of almost buying a brand new Jeep. I recently came across a used RIPP supercharger kit, It is missing a few critical pieces but nothing that cant be easily replaced. The kit I bought was RIPPs first gen kit and they have since released a newer kit with all new electronics and fuel injector package that is supposed to be the bees knees so after a quick call to RIPP I got all the parts on the way to upgrade my kit to the latest and greatest. RIPP also wants a thousand bucks for the intercooler and cold pipes. Being the Cheap A that I am I will be buying the intercooler somewhere else and building my own charge pipes.

After everything is paid for I should be into the entire setup about $1800 bucks and almost double the amount of power to the wheels. The rest of my parts are on the way so here is a picture of the charger itself to keep you held over for a few......

As a general rule, this will require you to run ~ 14 pounds of boost. Can the stock bottom end withstand this amount of added pressure? Not all OEM shortblocks can.

Intercooling: you can certainly run any old air-to-air unit if performance and/or power don't matter to you. However, I suggest you choose one very carefully. When making your selection, the single most important parameter is flow drag through the core (for the charge air). The charge air flow through the core will directly determine the amount of horsepower which can be made with a given intercooler. A properly-engineered core will obviously give better results than a cheap eBay special, so be prepared to spend some money. (I know it used to be "in" to bag on Spearco ICs as being too expensive, but their units are extremely well built and offer top-notch performance; IMO they actually represent a good value.)

We can get you a great deal on a water to air intercooler.

Also we recommend a diverter valve.

We have v- bands, t-bolt clamps, silicone parts in stock. Also a full line of AN hose and ends.

If you need anything have several air to air as well water to air intercoolers with an assortment of piping, hoses, diverter valves, and clamps.

ripp doesn't actually claim that setup will (not possibly can if this and that..) double a stock engine's power do they?

To the wheels a factory automatic JK puts down about 130 horse with the Ripp kit they are seeing 230-250 I know thats not double but its close enough to me the Ripp kit comes with 3 different tunes and is designed to be adjustable from 8-11 pounds of boost. These numbers are also backed up by numerous dyno runs and many different JKs

I already have an intercooler on order it is the exact same core size as the one Ripp sells with there kit I didnt order a cheap ebay one but i also didnt go overboard.

So I've been in Hawaii for four days now, and I'm renting a 2011 JKU with a slush box. I completely understand your guys pain with this anemic motor now.

It seems to do "okay" at sea level, but I took it up the canyon at 5000 feet and boy that's sad.

well I have been driving around with the Charger on for around 3 months now, Its awfully nice being able to hold over drive!!!!!

The power increase is huge, But I dont think its worth the $5k that Ripp sells it for. If I had paid even close to that I would probably be dissapointed, with the amount of cash I have into the setup It was worth every penny.

As we all know this is a centrifugal charger and with this style of charger there is a small bit of "lag" that you dont get with the roots style super chargers, I am running the stock pulley that comes with the kit, I machined a smaller pulley to help the boost come on a bit quicker but I havent had a chance to install it yet.

So over all it was an awesome upgrade but if any you JK owners are considering a super charger kit i would go with the sprintex or magnuson kit to really help with the off idle power.
