I am strugling, I got my truck and took the muffler off, then put a straight pipe from the catalytic back. about 3 months later my cat started vibrating and making rattling noises. So I replaced it, and got a brand new one. Now about 5 months later it is doing the same thing over again. its Rattling.
So what is my problem and what can I do to fix it? Thanks

I had this happen with my new cat....I found out that it was the heat shield on the cat that was rattling(where the metal comes together on the sides and is spot welded)I just welded a small bead to fix the metal back in place and the rattling was over with.

I know its not the shield though cause I had it off, it feels like there is rocks or somthing inside like that. Supposably its the core according to my auto teacher. I just wondring what it is so I can prevent it in the future.

Every Toyota I have ever owned did this. An '81, '85, '90, and now an '88. My 2001 Tacoma hasn't started doing it yet...I just ignore it.

it sounds like the core to me. my friend had one do the same thing, so we cut it in half and found the insides broken up.

There is a possibility that you are overheating the cat, burning the metal up inside. I had the cat on my YJ do the same thing, but I had it replaced and I never had another problem.

there no good anyway just take it off hahaha just kidding, ignore it or buy ear plugs. my buddys toy does the same thing, but his is the exhaust pipe brakes and starts rattling everything.
