I know some people set up hunting camps in the late fall before the snow falls then go back in the Spring to take things down after the thaw. It can be hard to get a tent that size out on horseback.

Kevin

That makes sense, I would imagine it will get pulled down pretty soon here. I would think there has been good access to that area for several weeks now, just thought it would be gone by now.

Thanks! Too bad about the tag, there's plenty of wildlife in the area. We did see another hunting camp near Steamboat Mesa, no idea why they'd leave that tent up thru the winter, but it was there! Looked like the weather had beaten it down pretty well.

Nice, but kind of a heavy tent. Alot like the Canadian Army Arctic tents we used.

I honestly would not want to leave a nice tent up for the winter. It will take more wear and tear, plus would always worry about someone taking it down before me.

Greg, is that a weimaraner in the Toyota? We've got a 9.5yr old female, Grace, she's so much fun to have around when camping!

Great dogs! Personalities like humans!

Yeah, it looked like it had been hammered pretty good. The winds up there have been pretty crazy recently too, lots of deadfall all over. I was surprised the tent was still standing.

Sure is! That's Daisy, our spoiled Weim. She has so much personality, it's too funny. She recently got a playmate too!- http://www.rockymountainextreme.com/showthread.php?t=65005

I think any human with a personality like a weim would be quick treated for ADD. :greg:

Fun dogs, but talk about a lot of energy!

Our Weim has settled down a lot, but she is a bit overweight. :-\ The new German Shorthair Pointer on the other hand runs around like a 7 yr old kid with a Crack habit. I took him out to the desert the other day and he was running at full speed, making loops about 100-150 yrs out. He did this non-stop for about 45 min.

Wouldn't you love to have that kind of energy? Man, I could get a lot more done.

Answered my own question, they're not. Anyone been down Casto Draw, it drops just shy of 3,000' in 5.5 miles down onto STate Hwy 141 just North/northeast of Gateway. I'm looking at it as a way to connect the Divide Road to Gateway coming from Ridgway, Colorado?

I think it was Casto Draw that I took coming through Gateway last fall, I remember the steep grade coming off the mesa. Let me check a map.
