Yes, I greased them regularly. I also welded on material to stiffen the weak main plate, improved the clamp since it was also weaksauce, then finally gave up and got a real notcher.

I actually still have a HF notcher in a drawer. I keep it around only because it's smaller/lighter frame will fit places my better notcher might not. (i.e. clamping it to a tube already installed on the vehicle, etc) Otherwise, I never use it if I have another choice.

I've done none of those things, and my HF notcher still works decently after many years of use. I'm aware mine is an anomaly though.

i had a notcher: "The Ol' Joint Jigger" haha no lie! it worked well, it had bronze bushings that never seemed to wear out and i got a lot of use out of it. not long after i sold it to a friend he said it broke :ugh: not sure if it was misused or what

I have a Pro-Tools notcher, it might be one of the best tools I have bought. I went the HF route and felt like I wasted the $40 I spent on it.
