I volunteered myself and Mudflap for this, since he wasn't there. :D

I put up a Facebook page, if you're on, please join-- ideally, everyone will also join the actual U4WDA for the measly $10-15 membership fee (depending on whether you're a member of one of our member clubs-- RME counts, btw).

So get all your friends to sign up, and then get them to send in their money.
Page is brand-new, so it's not much, but hey. Get on it! :D

What is the point of this?

As Bear said, it's to spread the word. A lot of people think U4WDA is only for rockcrawling trails or something, that is not the case.

Plus, Facebook is full of networks, which might expand the awareness beyond the usual 4wd user, and maybe get the fisherman who moseys down a dirt road to put in, the hunter who 4wd's up to the elk camp, the grandfather who's been going to that one overlook for his whole life... people who might not be reached by standard means.

It's always my hope to grow the organization to the size it should be in my mind-- EVERY UT 4wd vehicle user. :D

I get this all the time. People think it's all about rock crawling, so I think this is a great idea to get the message out to a bigger audience.

The message is the same as it will be forever, probably: That our access to public land is at risk at all times, and because of that, we need to make our voices and objections heard! Government acts without boots on the ground in a lot of these cases. It is much easier to look at a big stack of SUWA lawsuits and just draw a box around an area on the map and close it than it is to keep it open, maintain that area, and keep up with repair, etc.
The problem as I see it is APATHY. If less than 1,000 people in the intermountain west are the only ones that are going to even bother with a $15 membership, then I dont' know what I can say other than-- People need to get off their asses and HELP. How many members of this site alone AREN"T U4 members? You can join ALL the relevant land-use groups for around $100 a year--- U4WDA, United, USA-ALL, BRC, etc.

How much to people spend on 7-11 drinks, or McDonalds every week?

As to how donations are spent: We spend a chunk on the Compass, to give a tangible voice to some of our concerns. Articles are welcome. :D We give a lot of money to various legal battles (Canaan Mountain, etc), some of it goes to events like trail cleanups and conventions.. NONE of it goes in anyone's pocket, and we are continually looking for more effective means of addressing the 4wd user groups in Utah.

Join! :D

Thanks for the clarifaction but is it working, and would you be more affective if there weren't so many different clubs doing the same thing seperatley but rather join forces and work togeather.

It's working as much as it can, as all these organizations depend on people deciding to act. As far as being effective, the various groups serve different but related needs.

As far as U4WDA is concerned, we are committed to Utah issues, and act accordingly. USA-ALL and BRC are frequently intertwined with us on those issues, as well as United.
