Farewell to Coyote Canyon

With a tentative closure date sometime in October I need to get down to run my favorite trail one last time.

I am curious who can make it down this month sometime and when.

I'd love to make a Sept trip, but my weekends are packed quite full at this point. :(

If you like Coyote Canyon, you ought to drive a few more hours to Montrose, CO. There's plenty of similar stuff to Coyote that's even more challenging.

I am planning on a trip sometime in October. Probably Moab to do a shakedown on the new buggy. Don't know if I want to go all the way to Montrose the first time out, but it's tempting. I love that place.

:( I won't be able to run it again. It was fun while it lasted. Greg, let's go to Montrose in the spring. :)

I'm hoping for at least two trips to Moab in October, one of them being with the Planet4x4.net Moab Mash. Hopefully we'll get in before it officially closes. :(

I have Coyote on my calander for October 4th. Could also probably do it on Oct 11th or 25th.

i am an idiot but why is it closing?? and when???

Coyote is a user created trail in a previously "open travel" area. It was never inventoried so it was never even in consideration for being kept during the RMP process.

Our only hope at this point is the relationship RR4W has with the BLM in Moab. If they can persuade the BLM that the trail will lessen travel up some of the other harder trails we might get it back.

Just to be clear, it will be Moab Friends-For-Wheelin' leading the charge to get Coyote re-opened. We have alreadt talked to the BLM, and also San Juan County. It may take a while, but at this point things look promising.

My bad Jeff. I misunderstood who you were representing on the conference call.

To be fair this is all you man. Without your relationship with the BLM we don't really have a chance. Props to you and the MFFW.

On a side note.. let me know anything I can help with.

Go Jeff and MFFW!!!

I think the fact that is was closed as a non-inventoried route is better than other alternatives. Has it existed during their initial field inventory and they still decided to close it for one reason or another it might be a moot point. I'm assuming they couldn't even consider it as a route once it didn't make the cut for their route inventory?

Yeah, since it wasn't on the route inventory, it didn't exist in the eyes of the BLM.

Seth, I'll be at the next U4 BOD meeting, and I'll fill everyone in then.
