Just like it says... Should I go 35 or 40 splines? Since I have to build this thing from ground up anyway.... Right now it has 30 spline with Detroit and I doubt that will be able to handle 39" tires, right?

40 spline would be a custom shaft, too, correct? Honestly I haven't looked...Just came to mind at the time of this posting...

I do know ARB doesn't make a 40 spline locker, so I would be 'stuck' with a Detroit.

40 spline would be cool but I believe there is some other custom work that needs to be done like custom spindles (you're into the custom desert racing stuff at that point, Sandy Cone can do it for you). Personally I'd stick with 35 spline. I doubt you'll ever have any problems with 35 splines, I blew up my rear HA 1350 CV and twisted my front driveshaft in half and I was on stock 30 spline rear shafts.

From what I looked at the 40 spline blanks wern't that much more expensive then the 35 spline, somewhere around 25 bucks I wanna say for yukons

have you priced custom spindles, hubs, brakes, etc ;)

The shafts are very comparable, if he were going SF instead of FF I would suggest 40 spline (no extra work or expenses really), but going FF there is a bunch of custom work.

All right..That's kind of what I thought... I was also thinking about just running the 30's till they break. But then the Detroit would be toast. Right now I can at least sell the Detroit as used....:-\

40 spline....... whatever... you don't need 40 spline shafts.... I run 30 spline 1.5" shafts in my 14 bolt and I highly doubt you wheel like I do with the 454... Don't waist your money.

Only problem with 40 spline shafts is your limited options for a locker... you have a spool and... a spool.

The rear Dana 60 I'll be using in my project has 40 spline shafts & a spool. Yeah it's overkill, but the complete geared, assembled axle with disc brakes & all was as much as a new Detroit, so I bought it.

If your still interested in 40 spline parts, Mark Williams makes some pretty cool parts. That's what's in my rear 60.

Just for sh!ts & giggles, heres 40 compared to 35 spline shafts. :D -

It's just one of those deals.. I have a an axle that I need to put larger shafts in. 40's can't be more than 35's, so this is the time if I'm going there.... So I thought I'd ask...

So are you saying I would be fine with the 30 spline stockers then? Or 35, but definately not 40?

That depends on your wheeling style. From what I have seen you don't need 40 spline shafts. Greg just needs to have bragging rights............

But hey, do whatever you want, your cash..

Compensating? ;)

That's kind of what I thought, but I thought I would ask before I build this thing up. I'm already hearing 'when are you going to stop messing with that thing - just never satisfied are you - and etc.'

So say I go 35 spline front/rear. What size of pinion yokes do I go with? Right now I believe these 60's have 1330's (I don't have the rear yet, but I know the front does). I was thinking 1350's from the yoke on the tcase down. Right now I have all 1330's and don't break the Spicer ones. I've run other brands (that Tom Woods built) I can break real easy on a little water fall with a bump with 35's.
