I've got my '88 FJ62 Land Cruiser on the chopping block in trade for skilled labor in finishing my basement; valued at $2,400/OBO. My basement is 85-90% done, and I have most of the materials needed to finish. I have very little time to finish the project and we are putting the house up for sale very soon - hopefully just before April if this gets completed by then.

I'd like to find someone that wants the Cruiser and has experience in the following categories:

  • sheetrock (few spots to finish edging, final prep for texture)
  • texturing walls (approx 900sf of walls needed. ceilings are already done)
  • paint (we have ceiling paint and wall paint... need sprayer)
  • tiling (we have 18x18" tiles for laundry room & bathroom, as well as shower needs to be buttoned up - about 85% finished)
  • plumbing (we have everything plumbed, just need a toilet. May need to relocate 1 pipe)
  • electrical (finish work - outlets/switches and covers, some lights, and smoke alarms. we have all materials)
  • finish trim (we have zero trim)
  • possibly carpet (we have zero carpet, though I may have a good hook-up on carpet)

This is one giant puzzle to piece together, but if anyone is interested in checking out my basement and what is left I'm happy to show it or answer questions here. My time is being monopolized by work and a newborn, so help/labor with this basement is preferred over cash. Spread the word to your construction buddies who are looking for some side work and a new toy.

I'll try to post photos of the basement tomorrow. House is located in Magna, and the basement is just over 1,000sf, though, about 200sf of that doesn't need work.

  • I6 fuel injected engine (3FE) w/ 235k miles
  • Automatic transmission
  • decent condition interior for year
  • Old Man Emu suspension lift kit
  • 32" Maxxis Bighorns
  • CD player
  • HAM radio installed in dash, antenna on roof
  • Power locks and windows
  • Heater works great
  • Passes safety/emissions with ease
  • rattle-can paint job

The truck is very much drive-able, but, things that need attention:
  • Intermittent coolant leakage from either the bottom of the thermostat housing against the head, or from the top of the water pump from on of the gaskets. It seems to leak once at some point when the engine block reaches a certain temp, then once warmed up it stops leaking.
  • High pressure hose on power steering has a leak. I may have a used but good replacement lined up that could go with the truck (uninstalled)
  • Installation of aftermarket temp gauge. The current OE gauge is not accurate; new Toyota thermostat was installed about 5 months ago to ensure the cooling system is working properly.
  • May need an AC recharge in summer, if you care about that sort of thing.
  • Rust spots... It's an '88 Cruiser. It's cosmetic cancer on the sheetmetal, frame has minor surface rust as one would expect on a truck of this vintage.

if you would have posted up 2 months ago i would be all over it.

i dont think i have the time now tho.

if you dont find anyone, i could squeeze the trim work in when your ready. i also have a airless paint sprayer and could probably paint as well

How many miles? Would you drive it to Cali and back as it sits? I'll come have a looksee on tuesday

235k miles. Personally, I would address the coolant leak and the PS leak before making a trek to Cali. I think.it would make it in its current condition, but you'd be checking those fluid levels often for peace of mind.

I remember when I was at that point on our basement. It was very hard to get motivated to finish. Sanding is the worst too.
If I'd had more free time I'd be over there helping you. I do need to pick up some of my tools when you are done, just remind me so I don't forget. :D Are you going to stay close or you moving elsewhere?
