What bumpers??? (I havn't read through the entire thread yet)

I have set up quite a few FJ Cruisers now... several of which have seen some serious wheeling, I'll have to take a closer inspection next time they are by here. Damn FJ Elements :D:D:D

yeah I didn't read through the entire thread either, but the original poster was running I think an arb bumper and it was moving when flexed out I think I read, seems like a bunch of arguing what the problem actually is.

Interesting correlation... I'll have to read the thread. The ARB bumper (and any bumper for the FJC) mounts to the frame... I can't see how one bumper in particular could cause the issue? Seems by the poll in the thread stocker trucks are having the issue too?

Frame flex has always been a debated issue... some love it as it can be integrated into the design of a vehicle to improve ride, increase flex, etc. BUT it can cause issues just the same. I've seen FJ's and CJ's bend the tub under the doors due to too much frame flex. It will be interesting to see if Toyota does anything about it?

EDIT: and the original poster had a Warn bumper ;)

After a bit of reading they are thinking that the bumper is violently hitting the body when flexing, not only is it possible, but its likely. ARB recommends a 25mm (1" gap) when installing their bumpers, I'm not sure about the others. I'd be willing to be quite a few of these guys had theirs right close to the body as it "looks better". Whereas the stock bumper would flex if it contacted the body, the ARB (and other heavy duty winchbars) won't, so the body has to flex somewhere... cracks are the end result. I've even seen guys dremel out their mounting holes so they can mount the bumper up tighter than the ARB mounts will allow... now you know why you shouldn't.

Funny thing is I was just arguing with an RME'er about this on his ARB bumper equipped 07' Tacoma... I told him it would crease his fender, I didn't think it could crack it :D Mabey he will listen now ;)
