I'll be relocating soon and I'm debating on flat towing my Jeep rather buying or renting a trailer. It'll be about a 1550 mile trip. What are your thoughts?

Unlock the steering column, transfer case in neutral, trans in gear and go for it. Drive kind of slow as you won’t have brakes on 3550-5500 lbs behind you. It can be done

Tow bar and lights will be about $300-700 depending on how frugal and creative you can be. Hard to get a trailer for that much?

A lot of people flat tow. Although it works fine if you do it right, I still think a trailer is a better option in my opinion. You can back up a trailer if necessary, you can't exactly back a flat towed vehicle, at least not well. For my last cross country move, I bought a 24' trailer for $3k brand new, then sold it for $2800 once I got to Utah. You could find a cheaper used trailer even, and just sell it for what you paid for it once you get to your destination.
