I can't read the fine detail on the attatchment but I assume Chrysler is bringing back the Willy's name?

Marketing scheme, they are losing their market share fast and need a way to revive it... by using an old name synonomous with American pride, they hope to cash in on the patrotic wave our country is in right now. ;)

It's lame from what I've heard they took a wrangler X and put some fancy seats and some decals on it. From what I've heard D35 in the rear, 235x75 tires, camo seats... :ugh:

Yup. I agree.

The fine print bassically say's that it's a stock T.J. except a seven piece speaker system and paint on wheel and body, and a few decals. and that's what i thought to was a patriotic marketing scheme.

I don't understand why people are so negative. Jeep has always sold packages that really only affect comfort or looks. The only exceptions that I can think of are the Renegade 1 CJ5 and the Rubicon. If you like it buy one if you dont don't. Seems like Jeep can't win either way. They build the Rubicon and the people say real Jeeps are built. They build the Willys and everyone says it is a fake Jeep. I would not want the package but everyone has to admit it is better than the YJ Renegades.

Yeah, but they didn't need to re-use (ahem... rip off) the Willys name.

I still think it's ironic. Diamler & Willys that is.

Now that You bring it up and the more I think about it that really is Ironic.

Bingo! thats where my disgust resides..

The Jeep name itself now means more than the willys name ever did (I do want a willys coupe street rod with a blown Hemi real bad though). I wish people would have been more upset as America has been sold out to foriegn industry over the last 50 years. The American people bailed out Crysler with their hard earned taxes only to see it sold to a foriegn corp under the false impression that it was a merger of equals.

Thats free-market at its best... the better product sells... Notice as American Industry has declined over the past 50 years, as has the quality of the stuff it produces.

The Jeep name is popular name, but obviously it isn't enough.. hence using name that people have always associated with rugged patriotism... "Willy's"

Just like when Jeep introduced the "Rubicon"... they take a name synonomous with 4 wheeling and slap it on the hood... Mabey Toyota needs to make a "Constrictor"... :D

Blah Blah Blah...

Woopie. Big Deal...

I agree with Bobdog.

If my YJ is such a piece of garbage, then, whoa... I didn't know garbage could climb all over Moab, including Moab Rim.

Honestly... Who cares what companies do these days. It's all about money to them and they think that since Willy's was such a sweet vehicle and yes, the Patriotism that is going around right now, they think it is going to be a "big" seller which means $$$$$ which is just what they want.

A good Marketing Scheme = Yes

I'm gonna shut up now cuz I'm just blabbing and I don't even know what I'm getting at.

I think they should build a "real" Willys. No carpet, radio, steel wheels (no hubcaps) etc.... Build a "very" basic and then add options if you want them.

That is the Willys I remember.

That would be cool... a utilitarian Jeep with just the needed amenitites... like the real Willy's... :D

Oh yeah, well I've seen stock YJ's on it too.....what's your point, Mr. "Jeeps are sh#t?" :)

Using the Willys name is kinda lame, they may as well slap Studebaker or Hudson on there......it's all meaningless marketing gimmicks.

Now I'll tell you what a travesty is......bringing back the Scrambler name to put on the long wheelbase TJ that is coming out next year.......ick ick yuck!! That's despicable!! It's like calling a Toyota a Yugo.

OH! Here you go: If they use the Willy's name it should include:

Flat fenders, rounded fronts, just like the CJ2 and 3.
"Willys" stamped into the tailgate.
"Willys" on seats, dash, etc.
Spare tire mounted on the pasenger side rear quarter panel. Oh yeah!
Full size STEEL top.

Oh yeAh!!!
