Well I will tell you something. Have you ever been over there. Feet on the ground? I was on the ground over there a few times BEFORE 9/11/2001 and I can admit feeling distinctly like I had a target on my back. So the hatred was there even before the 1991 Gulf War. Perhaps it was a feeling based on my military training, or maybe just a hunch based on the hateful glares. And I will also state, I went out of my way when visiting other countries to learn some pleasantries, and some of the things that offend folks, so I wouldn't offend out of ignorance.
So now, we have yet another issue with someone that happens to have a middle eastern name, or faith, but you are saying we can't make an assumption based off of the same issues with the same results yet again?
In the above statement about Hasan trying to get out of the service, over the course of 8 years there had to be plenty of ways for that to happen. I can understand the ridicule he must have received, Then again he also caught the attention of the FBI for postings and comments...
I'm not going to say I have a hatred for all the mideast, or all muslims, that would be arrogant and possibly even racist. But I do get tired of the apologists always jumping up and calling the rest of us ignorant. Its perfectly acceptable to dump on the predominant faiths of this country but we dare not offend Islam as a whole, when repeatedly, we see the same pattern running...
And yes, I have had friends that were muslim. And I KNOW they denounced the 9/11 attacks, and I KNOW they found ways to keep from going on deployments. So Hasan's reactions were truly beyond the pale...
