Front Axle Locker???

So I am getting ready to order all my build parts for my dana 60 front. It is the GM version and needs a locker. I have experience running a spartan and detriot, but want a to look at a selectable locker....

How good is the eaton Elocker? Strong enough for v8 and 40" tires?

For budget reasons I am looking hard at the Spartan, but by the time I buy a carrier and the locker I am close to $500... E locker is only a little more it seems.

What would you run and why? Air Locker is nice, but compressor etc. make it too much $$$ it seems.

PM Mesha or Pelygroso with alljeep.com. I would look into the Yukon zip locker it is an air locker similar to the ARB but cheaper than the ARB and also cheaper than the eaton E-locker. Probably the biggest bang for your buck in the selectable locker market. Alljeep.com also does installs if you are looking for someone to install the gears and lockers also

I think I saw something in the instructions when I installed my spartan about not going over 33 inch tires.

I think I saw something in the instructions when I installed my spartan about not going over 33 inch tires.

I checked on that, many people are running it with a bigger setup and also big power and tires. Randys said they have very few issues. the tire size limit is more for warranty issues etc. So they hide behind a tire size and say not to go over it. randys said they have very low failure rate on all vehicles, even one with big tires and high horses...

But of course they want you to buy it...

For what its worth I am running 42s and I plan on running one in the front of my YJ as soon as its rolling again.

Also Kevin what axle did you install a spartan in Im sure a a spartan for a dana 30 is only safe to run a 33 inch tire but the spartan for a dana 60 is twice the size so Im sure it will be able to handle much more tire.

I love the idea of an Eaton e-locker, but it's tough to find real-world feedback on 'em. I'm curious to see what you find out.

I love my eaton e-locker for my d60. It goes on and off with a very easy to push button, the wires are super easy to route, water proofing is cake. I haven't had any problems at all. I ran one in my dana 44 before I swapped to a 14 bolt as well. I wish I had one in my 14 bolt too. It actuates quickly and disengages nearly instantly. I could hot wire it with a 12V battery from anywhere.. I don't know about strength compared to other choices... but I have wailed on mine pretty hard with 38" creepy stickies.

So f

I have one as well in my front 60. I've been quite happy with it. I'm not afraid of an ARB either.

Toyota 8 inch. You're probably right that the larger unit should be stronger - it'd be interesting to compare them side by side and look at the size of the teeth and such!

I have personnaly installed a dana 30 spartan and a dana 60 unit and the dana 60 units are defiantely WAY WAY more beefy than the smaller dana 30 lockers.

I like the ARB. I haven't run a lot of selectable lockers myself, but I've worked on more than my fair share. ARB's seem to be the most reliable and longest lasting.

If you decide to go with the automatic locker, I vote for the Detroit.

I ran an e-locker in a rear d44 in my 88 jeep wrangler for 4 years. Never had even one problem. I liked the open carrier for daily driving on ice / snow and then kicking the locker in as needed with the push of a button while crawling. Great as well to turn off as needed while making tight turns on the rocks. The internal parts of the locker are huge. Goggle Eaton e-locker and then you can see videos of the operation and design.

I run an ARB and have had zero issues. Sometimes ARB has a free compressor promotion with an air locker purchase. You have to watch for them but that is when I bought mine.
