jackjoh made a good point. The owners manual for my washer recommends wiping down the door and rubber seal, then leaving the door cracked to air dry after use. I know, I know.....who actually reads those things! My LG also has a tub clean cycle that you are supposed to run every month or two. It uses bleach to disinfect the wash tub.

Pictures of my home made pedestals. Made with 2x6 frame, 2x4 supports, and 3/4" plywood on the outside. From the floor to the top of the pedestal is 24.5" They aren't the prettiest things, but they are very sturdy. I added some anti-skid tape under the feet of the washer and dryer to keep them from vibrating off. They've been up on the pedestals for about a year now, and no issues.

I made pedestals out of 3/4 or 1/2 angle iron. Mine are one piece. Hundreds of $ for a stand is ridiculous.
