alright i have been looking all over and i cannot find a leak or smell a leak when i am outside the jeep.

what i have is a 99 xj, and when i have the heater on in the morning i get a bad fuel/exhaust smell coming in through the heater vents. i have been running on recirculate so its not bad now, but i know when i have to start using the defrost I'm gonna be screwed.

i have checked all over the engine for fuel leaks and exhaust leaks and i cant find sh!t. i was wondering if anybody knows the trick to fixing this problem

Replace the injector o-rings, they tend to get hard and split on the 4.0's.

Isnt' the canister under the hood on XJ's? You could have as simple as a bad fuel fill cap. OEM (at the dealer) cap is about $14.

i checked all the injectors and no leakage coming from them.

Still do it. Better to do it than to have to deal with a engine fire later. XJ's have a little reputation for those. Check also the fuel hardlines by the firewall. There's a little plastic clip with 2-3 o-rings on it. Also on the front of the fuel rail (radiator end) there's another line off the fuel rail. Also check the little piece of rubber hose between the fuel filter and the hard line.
