Gas tank for the commando project

I have been looking at possible gas tanks for the commando project and wanted to get some ideas on it. I have widened the frame and have a space about 34" wide x24" long to fit a tank in. I am putting in fuel injection and want to use an in tank pump. I have measured a bunch of tanks out at the pick n pull and it looks like several would work (blazers, cherokee, wrangler, and others) but would require a good skid plate to make them trail worthy. On my scrambler I have a custom tank that I picked up that was made with 10 gauge steel so no skid plate is required. The pick n pull gas tanks all have big holes in them where they drained the gas out so those are out. So should I pay out the money for a custom one or watch for part outs ? I would like a 20-30 gallon tank to feed the v8. Any suggestions ?

I've got one of the old FSJ aftermarket auxiliary tanks if you can use it-- its pretty burly, pretty low-profile, and free to you if it fits the bill... its at least 20gal... maybe more, its been a while since I looked at it.

Could always talk to the people at Pick and Pull and ask them to not put a hole in the tank you want. Thats how I got a replacement for my Cherokee for cheep.

I've got a drivers fill 72 Blazer tank (20 something gal), if that would work for ya. Otherwise, it'll hit the scrap pile.

According to LMC, BC's tank is 13" h x 19" w x 30" l. ;) The later model blazer tanks are bigger...but also hold more fuel. I want to say they're like 26x38 or something..

Im using a 20 gal from a s10 blazer, driver fill, inlet at top/side corner. That way I can run the in tank pump and sending unit for my tbi.

I would like to run an in tank pump for the TBI I will be putting on the 350 and that one looks like it would fit and has the fill in the right place. Thanks for all of the ideas everyone.

Tacoma's measurements sound about right. Cept it would be like 30" wide, and 19" front to rear. If you want to try and make something of it, it's all yours. Otherwise, I'll probably "accidently" run over it (a few times).

If a 83-85 cj7 will work I have a 20+ gal tank. just cant remember if its rt or lt fill.
Also has skid plate if I recall.

CJs are right side fill but it would depend on whether the tank has an angled rear. If it doesn't have a rear angled section it could be turned 180 degrees.

Don't run over it yet, I may need to come see it first to see how it would fit.
